Charlottie Burton Obituary

Ms. Charlottie (Gibson) Burton, 88, affectionately known as Mom, Momma, Grandma, Lott, Aunt Lottie, Sister Burton, Mother Burton, departed from this earthly life and went on to Glory, Saturday, September 6, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Mr. Bisby Burton. Ms. Burton was born June 1, 1937 in Elizabeth City, NC., a daughter to the late Lemuel and Gussie (Pool) Gibson. Charlottie was educated in Elizabeth City, NC where she attended P.W. Moore Elementary School in Pasquotank County. She married Mr. Bisby Burton in July 1954 until his passing on September 15,1999. She relocated to Waterbury in 1969 where she resided until her passing. In her early years, she had been employed by The Virjune Manufacturing Company for many years and also provided services in her home day care business until her retirement in 1990. Ms. Burton was a lifelong member of Refuge Church of Christ, where she was saved sanctified and filled with the gift of the Holy ghost and baptized in Jesus' name. While being a member, she served on the Missionary Board, Women's Council, Willing Worker Dept, Usher Board, Motherboard, where she served as Secretary and Treasurer, Senior Choir, Traveling Choir and Mass Choir. She also visited the sick and shut in, where she would bring services to the convalescent homes and homebound. Ms. Burton enjoyed spending time and visiting with family and friends. Talking on the phone, telling jokes, taking road trips to South, taking walks around her building and saying hello to the people. She also loved to sew and make things off the top of her head, organizing, redecorating her apartment, reading her bible, serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ while praying for others. She loved attending church services and being online via zoom with her son Lemuel. She truly loved her family. Mother burton was a very sweet person, a sharp dresser, classy, prideful, strong believer, photogenic, love loved taking pictures, kind, thoughtful, pleasant and would give you her last! She will truly be missed! However, no more pain, just resting in the arms of Jesus. Hearing him say, "well done, thy good and faithful servant" takes rest Sister Charlottie. Reunited with loved ones having a grand ole time on the other side. We'll see you later #1Mom. She leaves to cherish her memory, children; James (Linda) Burton of Plainville, CT., Ronnie, Donnie, Lemuel Burton all of Waterbury, Willistine Zimmerman of Tampa Fl., and Ramona Burton of New Haven CT., 25 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, one sister; Artencie Marie Woodhouse, one god daughter; Tasha Nicholson of New York, several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, church family and friends including very special friends, Dorothy Waiters and Mother Thelma Lewis. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by daughters; Carolyn Martin, Jeannette Davis, grandsons; Troy "TJ" Zimmerman Jr., James "Lil J" Burton Jr., great grandson; Sharef "Ref" Mahan, granddaughter; Devona Olender, siblings; Frank, Roosevelt, Herman, Sarah, Louise, Minnie, Adele, Charlie, Calvin, Vertie, and Lemuel.
