Cheryl Doyle Obituary
Cheryl Ann (Sunbury) Doyle, 67, of Terryville, wife of Thomas Doyle, passed away peacefully, after a 5 month battle with pancreatic cancer, on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at home. She was born on September 19, 1957, in New Britain, daughter of the late Richard and Irene (Paquette) Sunbury.
Cheryl was born and raised in New Britain. She loved to read and loved music. She had taught herself to read before she even started school. She was in the school chorus and band and even joined the Thomaston Choir Group after graduating. She loved going to shows and musicals with her two very good friends from nursing school, Cathy Vinci and Cindy Zotter. Cheryl was an RN her whole life. She had worked for many different companies or facilities, including The Hospital for Special Care, Masonic Homecare in Watertown, and Jerome Home. She was also involved with pediatric home care throughout northern CT. Cheryl was also a very active and dedicated member of the CT Nurses Honor Guard, traveling all over CT to pay tribute to nurses like herself, who had passed away. After retirement, she continued teaching clinical portions of CNA courses, part time at Tunxis. Cheryl was very active in volunteering at the Plymouth Community Food Pantry and was known there as "the produce lady". She also started a small "health check" in the pantry, where she took blood pressures of individual clients as a way to keep them healthy.
In her personal life, Cheryl loved to travel with her husband, Tom. They traveled to many of the western states, and they went on many, cruises; their first being to Alaska and their most recent was to the British Isles of Scotland, Ireland, and England. They were also both big fans of the band Chicago. They had seen them play live numerous times, in CT and other states. Cheryl loved her children and loved being a Mom. As a family they enjoyed going to the movies and on family vacations to Disney World, to the beaches in CT and camping trips. She supported them with their sports or dance teams in any way she could.
Besides her beloved husband, Tom, of nearly 43 years, Cheryl leaves behind her children, Daniel Doyle and his wife Amanda of Windsor Locks, Jennifer Doyle and her partner Brian Biela of Seymour, and Ryan Doyle of Plainville; her sister Suzanne Brown of North Stonington, her granddaughter Madelyn and several nieces and nephews. Cheryl was predeceased by her parents and her brother John Sunbury.
The family would truly like to thank, her healthcare team at the Harold Leever Regional Healthcare Center along with her oncologist, Dr. Consuelito Medrano; as well as members of the First Congregational Church of Plymouth for their support, especially, Pastor Denise, Barry Huber and Larry Minor; members of the CT Nurses Honor Guard for providing emotional support with cards, messages, and transportation for treatments, and coordination by Co-President, Maria Cusano-Sanzo; the volunteers of the Plymouth Community Food Pantry for support by cards, messages and meals, organized by the director Larry Chiucarello; and Cheryl's good friend Claire Meehan who also helped with transportation to treatments, and visits with Cheryl at St Mary's hospital and at her and Tom's home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 10, 11AM at St. Thomas Church, 1 E. Main St, Thomaston. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Plymouth.
