Clifton Holt Obituary

Clifton (Cliff) Jackson Holt II, age 83 of Plainville, CT passed away, surrounded by family, on October 9, 2025. He was born in Bristol, CT in 1942 to parents Rutherford & Ferne (Spong) Holt. Cliff attended Plainville schools where he lived his entire life. He served six years in the United States Army where he served duties in the United States and France. Upon returning to civilian life, Cliff worked as a licensed electrician at TRW Marlin Rockwell and New Departure until his retirement from Pratt & Whitney's overhaul facility. In his younger years, Cliff enjoyed playing competitive softball in local leagues. He loved to vacation with his family in Rhode Island. Being from a musical family, Cliff 'mastered' the harmonica, 'attempted' the guitar and felt he played the piano quite well. He enjoyed 50+ years of riding his Harley and was an avid fan of motor racing. Playing cards on Friday nights with family was a favorite pastime. He had a love of pranks and a sense of humor which carried down to his children and grandchildren. In later years his passions and pursuits lead to gardening where he grew several kinds of giant vegetables, sharing them with friends and neighbors. He loved overnight trips to the casino (both lucky and otherwise). He was especially fond of birding where he had a vast knowledge of the topic. A big fan of trivia, he never missed an episode of Jeopardy. In addition to his wife Donna (Myers) of nearly 58 years, Cliff is survived by a son: Troy Hafford of Florida; daughter: Denice Jones and husband, Scott of Bristol; son: Clifton Holt Jr and partner, James Foley of Middletown; and son-in-law: William Morrow of Bristol; half-sister Barbara Silva of Southington; sister-in-law Betty (Myers) Basset and husband Paul; seven grandchildren: Eric, Ashley, Bret, Megan, Matthew, Zachary and Mackenzie; six great-grandchildren and three nieces Cindy, Diane and Susan. He was predeceased by a brother John, a sister Eleanor Hurlburt and a daughter Kim (Hafford) Morrow, and half-siblings: Patricia Livingstone and James Holt. If donations are desired, they can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the Bristol Katherine Gaylord Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for their volunteer initiatives. Burial with military honors will be private and at the convenience of the family.
