Collin Burgher Obituary
Collin P. Burgher, born on September 19, 1934, in Seaforth St. Thomas, Jamaica, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 11th, 2025, at the age of 90. He was a devoted father. Growing up, if our mom was incapacitated, our dad would fill in by preparing our meals and getting us ready for school, etc. His favorite hairstyle when combing the girls' hair was the single ponytail updo with homemade coconut oil so tight our eyes squinted. He would always sing his favorite hymn to us; "There is a Green Hill Far Away". He often engaged in discussions about the Lord, gave advice as older Jamaican parents did on colloquialisms such as "the Lord doesn't give you more than what you can bear" or "words are wind, people can't hurt you unless you let them."
He was known for his dedication to his work and his ability to excel in multiple professions. Collin's achievements included his successful career as a truck driver, his entrepreneurial endeavors, his skilled craftsmanship as a mechanic, and his creative talent in building model trucks and buses. He was well known and held friendships and respect from key community leaders so as judges, examiners, etc. He loved cooking and cook whip up fried dumplings and chuck steak with rice and peas like any other Jamaican, but with his Indian bloodline and roots, he mastered the Dahl, Chutney, and Roti.
Collin was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Ira Burgher, his three siblings, Gloria, Sylvia (Tiny) and Uria Constantine (Baby) and his two daughters, Brenda Burgher and Luna Hinds. He is survived by his other children: Colleen (Donna), Collin Jr. (Teddy), Michelle (Mishiboo), Marceen (Mar) and Caroline, Alvin, Chris (Sapo) and Ian (TT). He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Dane, Maurice, Archie, Jonell, Richard, Janique, Jemall, Michaud, Ashantel, Camille, TJ, Samea, Jordan, Chandler and Christyn. Additionally, he is survived by his great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Collin was also quite the entertainer. He loved music and dancing and often played his record player and had us kids do dance competitions. He was full of dance moves and a great sense of humor. He often told jokes and stories, especially Anancy stories – "Anancy was a spider, Anancy was a man," would be the start of many stories. His humor was welcomed by many. He will be deeply missed.
