Cynthia Tinkham Obituary

Cynthia (McClintock) Tinkham, 95, of Newington, beloved wife of the late Reverend Allen Tinkham, died Tuesday, January 21, 2025 in Newington. Cynthia was born in 1929 in Hillside, NJ, daughter of the late Paul and Dr. Elsie McClintock. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Tufts College. Her most rewarding and fulfilling accomplishment was her family. A skilled housekeeper and cook, she enabled Allen to serve his churches by organizing their household and raising six children with creativity, humor and frugality. Cynthia was proud of her ability to stretch limited funds and lived by the mantra - Eat it up, wear it out, make it do or do without. Cynthia and Allen attended countless concerts, sporting events, graduations and other milestones of their children and grandchildren, supporting them by simply being present. As an avid quilter, she enjoyed immersing herself in quilting patterns and fabric stores and she created unique quilts for each grandchild. She welcomed visitors to her home with gracious hospitality. She and Allen were married for 67 years prior to his death in 2020. Cynthia lived in Newington for the past 56 years and worshipped at the Church of Christ Congregational in Newington. Cynthia is survived by her daughter Nancy Peluso of Deep River, CT, daughter Lois deBoer of Middletown, CT, son Jonathan Tinkham and his wife Pastor Melanie Enfield of Newington, CT, son Peter Tinkham and his wife Joanne (Burke) Tinkham of Newington, CT, son Daniel Tinkham and his wife Diane (McKone) Tinkham of Gilford, NH, and daughter Laurie Ann Bleickardt and her husband Eric Bleickardt of Skillman, NJ, along with 12 grandchildren, Rosemary Gould, Michael Peluso, Jeffrey Gould and his wife Tatiana (Duggan) Gould, Laura Gould, Jacob Tinkham, Samuel Tinkham, Sally Tinkham and her husband Keith Tinkham, Kelly Tinkham, Zachary Tinkham, Justin Bleickardt, Gregory Bleickardt and Abigail Bleickardt and two great-granddaughters, Mattie and Zara Gould. Cynthia was predeceased by two sons-in-law, Joseph Peluso and Frits deBoer, and her two sisters, Elizabeth McClintock and Mary McClintock. Her family would like to acknowledge the care and love given to Cynthia at Cedar Mountain Commons in Newington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Church of Christ Congregational, Newington, 1075 Main Street, Newington, CT 06111. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 16th at 2:00 pm at the Church of Christ Congregational, 1075 Main St., Newington. Cynthia will be interred beside her husband at the Cushing Cemetery in Mattapoisett, MA later in the spring. Cynthia was a dear friend since the early 70´s when I attended Andover Newton School of Theology. She and Allen would host post Christmas gathering at their home. Allen was my Mentor for over fifty years and their relationship was a model for Louise and I. Thruout my ministry when we came home to Plainville we would take them out to lunch . Cynthia would tell wonderful stories about their children and grandchildren. She always wanted to known how are family was doing as well. Louise and look forward our visit with them. We are happy they are together again!
