Darlene Berg Obituary
Darlene Chamberlain Berg, 68, of Granby, CT, passed away peacefully at home on August 22, 2025, after a seven-year battle with cancer. Born on March 29, 1957, in Hartford CT. She was a proud graduate of GMHS Class of 1976. Darlene devoted her life to her family, raising her two children, Danielle and Travis with love. She later embraced her favorite title, "YaYa," to her cherished grandchildren. She was married to her beloved husband, Marshall F. Berg, for 33 years.
Darlene worked many years cleaning homes and running the Fit Pit at Studio 202. More recently, she was part of the meat department at Kane's Market. She formed lasting friendships and was known for her loyalty, kindness, and unwavering work ethic.
A talented seamstress, Darlene began by making her own clothes and later sewed for her children. She could take apart a garment and put it back together as if it were nothing. She especially loved crafting her signature bunnies and bears for family and friends.
Deeply involved in her community, Darlene was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary 5847 in Granby and later 6123 in Windsor Locks. In 2023, she was honored as the East Hartland Fire Department's Grand Marshal in recognition for over 30 years of support. She looked forward to serving as the head clown in the parade every year followed by working in the food booth at the carnival.
Her greatest joy was cheering on her children in all they pursued whether it was acro-fitness, Cub/Girl Scouts, youth sports, cheerleading, or motocross. She especially loved traveling to motocross races with her daughter and was endlessly proud of everything her children accomplished. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and as YaYa, she never missed a chance to show up, cheer loudly, and make sure they knew how deeply they were loved.
Darlene is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Danielle and Anthony Soldate; her son, Travis Berg; her grandchildren, Austin and Rhylee Berg, Marshall and Vincent Soldate, Cody Berg, and Asia Berg; and her siblings, Sharon Messenger (Bruce), Joe Chamberlain (Donna), Tim Chamberlain (Michele), Kevin Chamberlain, and Scott Chamberlain (Denise). She also leaves many nieces and nephews, including those to whom she was especially close: Kim McLaughlin, Sandy Pycz, and Neal & Sherri Jaroch.
She was predeceased by her husband, Marshall F. Berg; her parents, George and Doris (Larose) Chamberlain; her sisters Gail McLaughlin and Denise Chamberlain; her brothers Butch and Bobby Chamberlain; brother-in-law Bob McLaughlin; sister-in-law Dale Chamberlain; and two stepsons, Scott and Artie Berg.
Lastly, Darlene leaves her loyal companion Nova who was always by her side to provide love and comfort for the last 10 years. Nova always made sure she was never alone, even if it was only room to room.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Smilow Cancer Hospital at St. Francis Hospital, as well as McLean's Home and Hospice, for their compassionate care.
