David French Obituary
David George French, 85, of Higganum, beloved husband of Kyllikki M. (Linna) French, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Middlesex Hospital.
Born in Willimantic, CT, he was the son of the late Clarence L. French and Vivian (Wall) French. David dedicated more than 30 years of service to the State of Connecticut as a social worker before his retirement. He was also proud to serve his country, spending over 20 years with the United States Coast Guard Reserves, retiring with the distinguished rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer.
A bold traveler in his younger years, David met his wife, Kyllikki, in Finland while backpacking across Europe. A lifelong lover of soccer, he coached children and played, himself, until he was 80 years of age, only having to stop when he suffered his first stroke. David also loved cars -- and sometimes to the chagrin of his family -- old cars that didn't run well and needed constant repairs and TLC.
David gave generously of his time as a volunteer at Connecticut Valley Hospital and the Prison Ministry, served as a deacon at his church, and participated in several mission trips to the Dominican Republic. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a warm, kind, gregarious, and compassionate man. David will also be remembered for his quick wit, his easy smile, and always being at the ready with a story or message to share. He loved the Lord, and he was a faithful servant to Jesus throughout his adult life.
In addition to his devoted wife, Kyllikki, David is survived by his daughter, Lisa French and her husband, Paul Landry of Alberta, Canada; his two sons, Erik French and his wife Alexandra of Massachusetts, and Jordan David French of Higganum; his sister, Emily Holton and her husband, Eddie of South Carolina, several nieces and nephews; and two cherished grandchildren, Owen David Landry and Luna Landry. David will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A burial with military honors will take place on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the State Veterans' Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown. A memorial service will follow at 12 p.m. at the First Church of Christ, 250 Main Street, Wethersfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to do so may send memorial contributions to World Vision.
