Debbie Capelli Obituary
Debbie Sundwall Capelli, of West Haven fell asleep peacefully on August 1, 2025 with her devoted husband Robert (Bobby) Capelli, and cherished sons Bobby, Luke (Michele Adamo), and Jake (Sarah McVeigh Capelli) by her side.
Born in New Haven on October 1,1956, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Catherine Madigan Sundwall.
At the tender age of 15, Debbie was predeceased by her Mom. This profound loss was just the beginning of many others which she suffered : she was also predeceased by her brothers Paul, James, Robert, and her protective beloved brother 'Rockin Ronnie' Sundwall.
Debbie leaves behind an army of loving immediate and extended family, inclusive of so many who meant so very much to her: especially her niece Lisa with whom she shared a special bond, nephews, nieces, sister-in-laws & brother-in-laws ( some of whom she was also predeceased by).
Debbie was an exemplary wife and a fiercely protective Mother. She loved her boys unequivocally beyond life's challenges and exuded so much unwavering pride in each one of her 3 Sons: they were ultimately her most treasured gifts.
Debbie will be remembered by her Family & Loyal Friends with admiration, Love, and laughter: those who knew her shared her loyalty and reveled in her humorous antics and her unwitting sense of humor! She leaves us with countless priceless memories to hold close in her honor & to sustain us.
She had a unique and enviable sense of style, a favorite strand of pearls, a particular perfume, a thing for sunglasses & pedicures, could rock a fedora like no one else, that discreet butterfly tattoo, a steadfast devotion to those whom she trusted, and an unmatched vocabulary of 'Debbie- ism's'. She was the cool 'aunt' who would play them classic Rock & Roll songs, come to the sleepover party & teach the pre-teens how to tie-dye, and the one grown up whom all the young girls wanted to emulate, including the way she "warshed " dishes like a flamingo.
She loved music, a good movie, to vacation, randomly 'interviewing' strangers she met on vacation, tag sales, shop, cook, entertain, Girls' trips, to read, to reminisce with pictures, and talking about her Boys.
She was effortlessly classy with perfectly balanced royalty & edginess, funny without trying, remembered every detail of all things, and she was the perfect vacation companion for creating memories with. She was a friend to be cherished and always reminded you of how much that friendship meant to her.
Debbie was Grace personified; she struggled with more loss in her lifetime than anyone should have to bare; Those losses contributed to her sensitivity and she felt things deeply. As she often suffered privately - she perpetually navigated thru each one with a quiet strength and determination. Her devotion to and from her Loving and supportive Husband, her unmatched Love for her Sons, and her trust in The Almighty were her navigators thru her struggles as well as thru out her happier life experiences.
Debbie's family would like to extend Heartfelt gratitude by acknowledging the YNHH / SRC SICU staff who cared for Debbie. Particular thank you's to Alicia and Kayla, Debbie's RN's who provided outstanding care and compassion, as well as empathy for her family.
Debbie was a devoted Jehovah's Witness who adhered to her principal driven compass thru every personal struggle.
Her Faith never wavered- in sickness and in health.
