Delia C. D'Alesandris passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025. Delia "Dee" "Della" "Estelle" D'Alesandris was born on March 7, 1930 in Ballinamona, Ahascragh, Ballinasloe, County Galway, Ireland, to the late Patick and Margaret (Cosgrove) Concannon. Delia arrived in the United States in February 1952 following her brothers John and Jim to reside in West Hartford, CT with her late aunt, Mary Cosgrove Lavery. Delia quickly found a job with The Hartford Insurance Company and then with the Aetna Insurance Company where she remained for several years. Delia made many friends throughout her entire life always making people feel comfortable and welcome. A friend or acquaintance of Delia's was sure to receive a hand written note in the mail or a homemade dish at their door to let them know she is thinking of them. Delia enjoyed reading, the newspaper jumble, and discussing current events and remained respectful to those of different opinions. She also enjoyed shopping at Westfarms Mall and the Shops in Old Wethersfield, planting flowers from Stonehedge Nursery, cooking in her kitchen and many summer vacations in Ogunquit, Maine.
Delia married Robert A. D'Alesandris and they resided together for 62 years in Newington until his passing. Delia is predeceased by her brothers John Concannon, Jim Concannon, Tim Concannon and sisters Mary Egan, Margaret Kyne and Ellie Kennedy. Delia leaves her daughter Susan Sousa and her husband Paul, of Cromwell, along with her three grandchildren, Abby Sousa and Stephanie Sousa, of Boston, and Nathan Sousa, of Cromwell. Delia leaves several loving nieces, nephews, and cousins in America, Ireland and Canada. She is survived by her nephews John Concannon and his wife Barbara, of Rocky Hill, Bill Concannon and his wife Claudia, of New Canaan; her nieces Margaret Concannon and lifelong friend Robbin Adair, of Maine, Lisa Rosano and husband Mike, Diane D'Alesandris, Carol Murdock and her husband Michael, all of West Hartford. Delia also leaves her sister-in-law Elizabeth "Betty" Concannon, of West Hartford. Betty provided great support and endless kindness to Delia in the time they shared together.
Delia worked in the Newington Public School system as a cafeteria aid at Martin Kellogg Middle School. She then got a position at Newington High School in the main office. She was the voice you would hear when calling the school's switchboard and over the building intercom system. She enjoyed working with the students, teachers and staff providing a sympathetic ear to many. Following her retirement from the town, she started working at the Hartford Arch Diocese located in their Newington office. Again, Delia provided good service and comradery to the office. Here, she found her dear friend, Ann Garbiel, who encouraged Delia to explore her artistic side along with having great conversations about current events, their favorite TV programs and the love of their families. Delia moved to Jefferson House of Newington in 2024 where she enjoyed the activities and made friends with residents and staff alike. You could always count on her for a spirited conversation, attending Bingo and Movement with Music.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Annunciation Parish, 626 Willard Avenue, Newington,
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Connecticut Humane Society. The family will be forever grateful to Elaine Steven, her home healthcare companion in 2022 and 2023 and the entire staff at Jefferson House of Newington for the kindness and unending care provided to Delia with great dignity, respectfulness, love and laughter.
