Dennis Wry Obituary
Dennis Owen Wry, 78, of Plymouth, Michigan (formerly of Simsbury, Connecticut), entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on October 6, 2025. Born on May 19, 1947, in New Britain, Connecticut, to Howard and Jane (Schmidt) Wry, Dennis grew up surrounded by many cousins who remained an important part of his life throughout the years. After graduating from New Britain High School, Dennis went on to earn his degree from Boston University. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1973.
Dennis married the love of his life, Lorraine (Blomberg) Wry, and together they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. They raised their daughters, Deborah Morel and Rebekah (Stephen) Carrier, in Simsbury, where they lived from 1979 until May 2025. In the spring of 2025 they moved to Plymouth, Michigan to be near family.
Dennis enjoyed life's simple and joyful moments-family vacations with Lorraine and their daughters at Camp of the Woods, celebrating holidays with extended family, golfing or watching the game with his brother-in-law Robert Blomberg, and treasuring over 45 years of friendship with his cherished Berkshire Way friends.
Dennis was a devoted grandfather, cherishing every moment with his beloved grandchildren-Gary Morel Jr., and Caleb, Chloe, and Clementine Carrier. He especially loved playing Uno, Memory, and Legos with them, or watching as they baked with Grandma.
His life was marked by faith, dedication, and service. A longtime member of Valley Community Baptist Church, Dennis had a lifelong passion for sharing God's Word. His career reflected that calling through his meaningful work with the American Bible Society, Wycliffe Bible Translators, Bethel College, and most recently, Biblica. His favorite verse was Revelation 7:9–10: "After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands. And they were shouting with a great roar, 'Salvation comes from our God
who sits on the throne and from the Lamb!'"
A faithful man of strength and fortitude, Dennis leaves behind a legacy of love and perseverance. Dennis was also a loyal Cleveland Browns fan, and though his team often tested his patience, his steadfast loyalty never wavered-just one more example of his enduring faithfulness. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service celebrating Dennis's life will be held at Valley Community Baptist Church, 590 West Avon Road, Avon, Connecticut, on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. The Carlson Funeral Home, New Britain is assisting with arrangements.
