Derrick Wright Sr.

Derrick Devon Wright, Sr of Hamden. CT affectionately known as " PIE " departed this life and entered into rest on July 30, 2025 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Derrick was born on September 11, 1981 to the late James Frank King Jr. and Peggy Vanessa Wright. Derrick attended James Hillhouse High School here in the city of New Haven. He was employed at West Haven Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation formally known as the Regal Care of West Haven , CT., Masonicare Health in Wallingford, CT and Apt Foundation in New Haven, CT where he enjoyed his profession and skills in environmental services and facilities maintenance. Derrick was also the proud owner and CEO of his own janitorial company named Vanessa Angel Hands which he named whole heartedly after his mother the late Peggy Vanessa Wright. Derrick knew so many people in the Newhallville neighborhood (Read St.) as well as surrounding areas. He touched so many lives with his charming smile and especially with his unapologetic jokes. Derrick Devon Wright, Sr. leaves to cherish his memories wife; Arelisha Sharrell Wright, children ;Arevon Sharrell Wright, Derrick Devon Wright Jr , and Devon Wright, sisters; Felicia Wright Carpenter (Marcus) and Rita Watson Adkins (Yolanda), brothers; James Frank King III, Tyson Watson, and Wesley Watson, grandmother; Mrs. Hazel Wright, aunts; Beverly Wright and Nanualynn King, uncles; Quinton Wright, Sr and Henry Hamilton, In-laws; Canei Browning, Darrell Spears, Salawne Brooks ( Tyrone ), God- daughter Amare' Jones and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, special relatives and friends. Derrick was pre- deceased by his loving parents James Frank King, Jr. and Peggy Vanessa Wright, Maternal grandfather Robert Wright, Maternal aunts; Mariyln Morris Simmons and Katherine "Renee" Wright, Maternal cousin; Jeffrey "Scooter" Wright, Paternal grandfather James Frank King, Sr. and Paternal grandmother Annie Mae King. Derrick was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
