Doris Evelyn Bondeson Obituary
Doris Evelyn Bondeson (94) a long-time resident of Bristol, CT passed away peacefully on May 30, 2025 in Litchfield, CT. Doris was born on Oct 21, 1930 in the Greystone section of Terryville, CT to Evelyn (Eva) Peterson Johnson and Richard Theodor Johson and lived in Terryville and then Bristol, CT for most of her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and touched so many lives over her lifetime, she will be deeply missed.
She is survived by two daughters: Kim Ciccarello; Suzann Duffy and son-in-law Edward; a son Carl Bondeson and daughter-in-law Gayle; two devoted grandchildren: Marisa Mastrobattisto and her husband Michael and their two sons, Michael and Macallen; and Jordan Ciccarello and his girlfriend Danielle; her sisters Sandra Colasanto, Evelyn Cote and Elaine Cote and many nieces and nephews. Doris was predeceased by her husband Russell, son-in-law Arthur Ciccarello, her siblings Lois Kamens, Beverly Damsker, Robert, Richard (Sonny), Harold (Toddy) and Marion.
Her early years were spent on her family's farm in Greystone. She often reminisced about life on the farm with her siblings - swimming in the family's swimming hole, cooking for the large family, sleeping with warm bricks in her bed because the house got cold at night, a 55 pound farm raised turkey that ended up stuck in the oven and running to catch the school bus. She graduated from the Terryville School System, where she played basketball and remained an avid basketball fan, especially of the UCONN girls' team throughout the rest of her life.
Doris and her husband Russ were an adoring duo who complimented each other for over 65 years. She was a loving mother, meticulous homemaker, stellar cook and a compassionate caretaker to those around her. Kim, Sue and Carl each now epitomize the various traits that Doris modeled throughout their childhood. She was always cooking and baking and giving food away to friends and family. Favorites included - Swedish Cardamom Bread, Relish, Pies, Cookies, Turkey Chili and Pasta Fagioli. If she wasn't cooking, she wanted a job - can I clean your cupboards, weed your garden, our energizer bunny.
Doris began her professional career as a bookkeeper in Waterbury and later took on that role for Russ' screw machine business, Quality Production and Sales in Bristol which she helped him run for over 25 years. When not working Doris and Russ spent time at Chippanee with the family - golfing, swimming and socializing. They also enjoyed fishing at the Limestone Trout Club.
She was an active member and a Life Deaconess of the Terryville Congregational Church where she and Russ worshiped on Sundays for decades. Doris truly enjoyed the church community and could often be found in the church kitchen baking pies, cooking for fairs and bazaars and working with Russ on chicken barbecue fundraisers.
Later on in life Doris was a phenomenal grandmother to Marisa and Jordan. She and Russ were very involved and supportive grandparents, going above and beyond to spend time with their grandchildren and attend as many hockey games and horse shows as they could.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Brandywine Assisted Living, the VNS/Hospice of Litchfield County, as well as Dr. Shamugam & Dr. Reyes for the amazing care she received ov er the years.
