Doris A. Nitti

Arts Educator and Artist, Doris Nitti, Dies at 92 Doris Nitti, 92, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025 at Greenridge Place in Rocky Hill, Connecticut. Doris was born on December 14, 1932, in East Haven, Connecticut, the daughter of Joseph and Julia (Pecoraro) Nitti. Doris is survived by her chosen family: Jerry Kirby of South Chatham, MA; her nieces and nephew, Jackie Keady (George) of Longmeadow, MA; Jeanne Kirby (Dave Rapaport) of Burlington, VT; and Don Kirby (Liz Dunn) of Portland, ME; and eight grandnieces and grandnephews. She leaves devoted friends Connie Kapral of South Windsor, CT and Fran Judycki of Rocky Hill, CT. Doris was predeceased by Claire Kirby of S. Chatham, MA and her life partner, "Best Pal" Jeanne Galvin of Wethersfield, CT. Doris graduated from Southern CT State College in 1953 and began her career as an art teacher in Rocky Hill, CT. After she completed graduate work at the University of Hartford, she taught art at middle schools in Hartford, CT until she retired in 1991. Together with Jeanne, Doris made wonderful friendships and memories in their beloved communities of Provincetown, MA and Saint Petersburg, FL. Always industrious with bountiful creativity and imagination, Doris expressed herself through painting, cartooning, gardening, soap making, cooking, costume design, emojis and writing poems. Doris was incredibly grateful for the kindness, support and companionship extended to her by the CNAs and staff at Greenridge Place. Doris will be remembered for her awe-inspiring positivity, her fabulous sense of humor (often at her own expense) and her unconditional acceptance of others. A celebration of Doris' life will be held on March 28th at 11 a.m. at Saint James Church, 767 Elm Street, Rocky Hill. All are welcome.
