Dorothy Hawley Obituary

Dorothy "Dottie" Hawley, born November 5, 1939, of New Hartford, CT, passed away Friday evening, August 22, 2025. Dottie overcame many obstacles in her youth. She worked tirelessly for the State of Connecticut helping families in need until she retired after over 35 years of service. Her hard work paid off and she and her devoted husband of 46 years, Richard "Rit" Hawley, spent their time together building a love-filled life and living in what she referred to as "her beautiful home." Dottie enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing games of all sorts and sunbathing. She loved to dance. She was never more content than when she was lounging by the pool with a glass of red wine, quiet music, and her loved ones surrounding her. No animal in need, neither wild nor domestic, would ever be turned away from her doorstep, and most would become family before the end of the very same day. Dottie is survived by her loving husband, Richard Hawley and her three daughters, Kim Bartlett Ellsworth, Holly Crosby and Nicole Spence. She also leaves behind grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends that span decades and those she inspired with her emanating strength and a resilience most will never know. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 39 Prospect Street, New Hartford at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at the Log House in New Hartford, CT at 12:15 p.m. Burial will be private.
