Dorothy Lappin Obituary

Dorothy Liftig Lappin, beloved mother, grandmother, arts patron, and community leader, passed away at the age of 94. Born on December 23, 1930, in Ansonia, Connecticut, Dorothy lived a vibrant and full life as a resident of Hartford, Connecticut; New York City; and Palm Beach, Florida. Dorothy was the devoted mother of four children: Julie Sudarsky Gross of Long Beach, NY; Dr. Laura Sudarsky of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Dr. Jennifer Sudarsky of Los Angeles, CA; and Jonathan Lappin of Palm Beach, Fl. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Benjamin Gross, Sophie Lopez, Jonah Lopez, Alexander Lappin, Andrew Lappin, and predeceased by Joshua Gross. Professionally, Dorothy served as Vice President of the New England Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company for 15 years, breaking ground as a woman in business at a time when few did. She also served as President of Lappin Communications Radio Group of Florida and Massachusetts for 26 years. A proud graduate of Emerson College, she later served as a member of the college's Board of Trustees. Her commitment to education and the arts extended to her leadership roles with the Salk Institute, Palm Beach Dramaworks, and as a board member of the Palm Beach Opera. A passionate supporter of the arts, Dorothy dedicated much of her life to uplifting young artists. Her greatest joy came from her work with the School of the Arts Foundation supporting the Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts, where she nurtured and championed the next generation of musical talent. A private service will be held for the family, with a celebration of life to follow later this year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the School of the Arts Foundation supporting the Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts. https://soafi.org/product/DorothyLappin/in-memory-of-dorothy-lappin Her decades-long, relentless contributions and fundraising efforts have been-and will remain-a silver lining woven into the fabric of Palm Beach County's arts and culture, enriching students and their careers for generations to come.

Dear Julie, Laura, Jennifer and Jonathan - I am deeply saddened by the news of your mothers passing. Although I had not seen her for the past few years, I have very fond memories of the many lunches we shared since she was a board member and honorary director at Palm Beach Dramaworks. Dorothy was a beautiful person inside and out and will be sorely missed. May her memory be a blessing.
