Edward J. Zack, 88, of Glastonbury, devoted and beloved husband of the late Joan (Niemczyk) Zack, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 24, 2025. He was born in New Britain, the son of the late Edward E. Zack and Helen (Lawrynowicz) Zack. He grew up in New Britain, lived most of his life in West Hartford and most recently in Glastonbury. Ed entered the Army in September of 1957 and was on active duty until September 1959, where he was stationed at White Sands Missile Range, White Sands, NM. He was in the reserves and on standby from 1959 to 1963 and was honorably discharged in September of 1963. Employed for over 40 years at Fafnir Bearing/The Torrington Company in New Britain, and then Torrington, Ed started his career as a Toolmaker, then shortly after became an R & D Technician, spending most of his time there as a member of the engineering test lab. Some of the work he did is displayed in the New Britain Industrial Museum. Ed will be remembered as the ultimate handyman and backyard mechanic who could always be found working on a car, a project or fixing something. He never hesitated to help a friend or neighbor and was always the first to volunteer. An avid gardener, Ed always enjoyed sharing seeds and plants with his younger sister Lorrie and loved giving away what he grew. He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Lauren Zack of Boston, MA and Chris and Gioia Zack of Wethersfield and four grandchildren whom he was so proud of. He also leaves his sister and brother-in-law, Lorrie and Jeffery Livingston. two sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Edna (June) and Robert Hoffman, as well as two brothers-in-law.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on the Zack family from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, May 3, 2025 in the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 140 Farmington Avenue, Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Edward's life will follow in the Cathedral at 11:00 am. Entombment will follow in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Road, Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Edward's name to the
