Eleanor Lowell Obituary
On Thursday, May 29, 2025, Eleanor "Ellie" DiGiovanni Lowell left this world peacefully to join her loving husband, her dog Zippy, and her siblings.
Eleanor was born to Nicholas and Assunta (D'Angelo) DiGiovanni, immigrants from Italy, on February 9, 1930, in Hartford, CT where she was raised with her large extended Italian family. She was always proud of her heritage and loved the family get-togethers. Ellie's cousin introduced her to Raymond, who became her husband in 1962. They immediately started their family of two daughters, in Glastonbury, whom she proudly raised as a stay-at-home mother. They later retired to South Windsor with their dog R.B.
She was a graduate of Hartford Public High School focusing on her secretarial skills although she preferred and excelled as an artist. Ellie used those talents of painting and drawing for her family's pleasure along with always using her wallpapering skills. She created a lot of warm memories and laughs with family and friends on their bus trips together and especially to the casinos. Ellie worked for a variety of companies and loved to share with her family that she "closed" every business she ever worked for. Those businesses included Whitney Chain, Emhart, New Directions, CBT Bank, Fleet Bank and Underwood Typewriter Lab – all closed for good!
Ellie's pride and joy in her life were her grandchildren. She loved their time together and being part of their lives as they grew up. She and Ray always said, "they were good for the soul". She proudly told everyone they are all doing what they love and are good at it.
Ellie leaves behind her two daughters, Cynthia Lowell and Kathryn (Lowell) Carroll and Wayne, her grandchildren Lindsay (Hock) Mulcahy and Devin, Andrew Hock and Emily, Nicholas Hock, Jennifer (Carroll) Santucci and Steven, Stephanie Carroll and Sean Mismas and Lauren (Carroll) Butler and Wally, her great-grandchildren Peyton Mismas, Archer Mismas, Emily Butler, and on-the-way Baby Boy Mulcahy. She is predeceased by her siblings and their spouses: John DiGiovanni (Lucy), Ann DeFelice (Ralph), Carolyn Forte (John) and Mario DiGiovanni (Diana), brother-in-law and wife Frances and Barbara Lowell, her nephew Arthur DeFelice and niece Janice (DiGiovanni) Pascucci.
Eleanor moved in with her daughter Kathy and Wayne shortly after Raymond's passing. She and her little dog Zippy enjoyed many happy years together.
Special thanks to the staff at Bickford Health Care Center for the caring service they provided her during her short stay.
