Elizabeth Ann "Zan" (Wagner) O'Goley, 90, of Suffield, formerly of Enfield, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025. Born in St. Albans, VT on April 5, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Paul Benjamin Wagner, Sr. and Harriet May (Hubbard) Wagner.
Zan grew up in Enfield and graduated from Enfield High School. Early in her career she worked as a shorthand secretary in the Flat Iron Building for the State of CT in Hartford. She married Donald "Bobby" O'Goley in July of 1956 and for many years worked as a bookkeeper for his business, Alden Avenue Garage. She also worked at JCPenney, Marek Jewelers, and for 14 years at Brook Pharmacy in Scitico Plaza.
Active in her community, Zan was a member of the Enfield Senior Center, the American Legion Setback League, the Red Hat Society, and in earlier years served as a Girl Scout Troop Leader. She loved reading, traveling across the US in their RV as a group, Bob, herself, her sister, Pauline and her husband, Nelson and taking She also loved taking Dave's Bus Tours with her dearest friend, Elsie Strait. They were known for their endless laughter as they were the best of friends. After Donald's death in 2008, she found companionship and gentle love with James Machnik. Together they traveled to Florida, China, and Poland, shared hobbies such as exhibiting antique tractors at fairs, and belonged to a metal detecting club. Each night as they fell asleep, they could be heard softly singing to each other.
Zan leaves behind her loving daughter, who will miss her dearly, Donna Markham of Enfield; granddaughter Michelle Markham and her fiance' Geoffrey Flemati; her cherished great-granddaughter, her angel, Pia June Flemati; her grandson Shawn Mason Miller; and her partner James Machnik. She will also be missed by special friends Betsy Davenport and Hugh Jones and Pat. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Elizabeth's caregiver, Monique Butler for the wonderful care she provided over the years.
She was predeceased by her husband Donald O'Goley; her sisters Pauline Magleora, Mary Lou Borowski; her brother Paul Wagner; her best friends, Elsie Strait, Linda Hajec and Jean Janaitis; and her loving niece, Linda Dascanio.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Hazardville Cemetery, at the corner of Elm St. and North Maple in Enfield, CT.
