Obituary of Elsie S. Bauer Elsie S. Bauer, 102, longtime resident of Glastonbury, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 12, 2025. Elsie was born on July 5, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of Stefan and Margit (Kedrovich) Sargavy, the third of their four children. Elsie started her career in banking on Wall Street at age 16, after having graduated from Girls' Commercial High School. She went on to hold various positions within the federal government, which culminated in an administrative role for the Army National Guard. She received an Outstanding Civilian Service award for her 25 years of dedication to the military. Elsie was an avid letter writer, preferring this method to keep in contact with her many friends in the United States and abroad. She also loved to read, her favorite genre being historical fiction. Most of all, she and her late husband John were prolific travelers and went on many trips with The Friendship Force, a cultural exchange program started by former President Jimmy Carter. They also camped throughout the United States and Canada well into their 70s. Elsie and John spent many happy winters at their second home in Nokomis, Florida. Her greatest love was her family. She is survived by her daughter Lynne Campbell and her husband Michael of Glastonbury. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Christopher Campbell and his wife Kia; Jeremy Craven and his wife Michele; Megan Campbell; and Jeffrey Craven and his wife Elaina. She was the proud great-grandmother of seven. She was predeceased by her husband John as well as her daughter Janet Craven and her husband Howell. The family will be gathering at a later date for a celebration of a life well-lived.
