Evelyn DeCarish Obituary

Evelyn H. DeCarish, 90, of Windsor, CT, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Saint Francis Hospital surrounded by her family. Evelyn was born on April 4, 1935, in Hartford, CT to the late Harry Hawk and Mary L. Barnes. Evelyn's first job was at HB Davis where she worked for approximately 2 years, then moved on to work at The Department of Revenue Services, where she worked for 26 years until her retirement in 2004. Evelyn was raised with her 9 siblings who love spending time together playing cards, listening to R&B music and spending time with family. Evelyn's hobbies consisted of sewing, going to shell gas station for her lotto tickets, watching her westerns, going on bus trips with her sisters and shopping at the outlets. She was once a club secretary for Popular Club and an avid QVC shopper. She was also known for her cooking and baking skills, which consisted of homemade cakes and frostings. Evelyn was a strong woman of God who put complete faith and trust in him. Evelyn was a humble, genuine person, a woman of a few words but never failed to keep her grandchildren in line with the infamous words "I'm gonna pop you one". Evelyn was the embodiment of the word. She showed strength, kindness, generous, thoughtful, tough but fair and always loving. Evelyn was the epitome of a strong black woman being the example of Godly perseverance and resilience. We cannot adequately express the level of gratitude and appreciation we have for our beloved Mother/Grandmother in the values that she has instilled in each of us and will grieve the absence of her in our daily lives. Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory 7 children; Dorita (Wayne) DeCarish-Harris, Dudley (Renee) DeCarish, Jr., Evelyn (Milton) Hamilton, Harry (Carmen) DeCarish, Anthony DeCarish, Sr., Gregory (Tanya) DeCarish and Lori (Anthony) Rosemond. She was the proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren Endia M. (Steven) Jefferson, Erica Harris, Jevon C.W. Harris, Wayne (Stephanie) Harris, Jr., LaQuasha Florence, Allana DeCarish, Anthony DeCarish, Jr., Jasmine (Tyrell) Franks, Aaron Dillon, Gregory Moore, Chanti DeCarish, Dionne (Dion) Smith, Tori Rosemond and Brandon Rosemond, 16 great grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren and Sister Betty Harris. Evelyn was preceded in death by her five brothers Chester, Oscar, Samuel Lee, Melvin Jordan and Alvin (Linda) Jordan; her three sisters, Dorothy (Shortie) Williams, Annette Jordan and Elizabeth Jordan Parkman; and her granddaughter Eilon M. Harris. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to our sister Lori Rosemond and brother-n-law Anthony Rosemond who were the primary caregivers for our mom. Thank you for your dedication and putting your own lives on hold to ensure that she was in the best care. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 13, 2025 from 10-11, with the Celebration of Life at 11:00 am at Pilgrim Way Baptist Church.
