Frederick Bowden Obituary

Frederick Bowden, 93 of East Haven passed away August 13, 2025 at CT Hospice. He was born February 9, 1932 in East Haven to Alfred and Clara (Talmadge) Bowden. Frederick is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Barbara (Lynch) Bowden and their children; Peggy McLaughlin (Sean) of Branford, Stephen Bowden (Sue) of East Haven and Michael Bowden (Joyce) of East Haven along with nine grandchildren; Susan Allen (Jeff), Julie Demsky (Mike), Stacy Gutierrez (Ralph), Matthew Bowden (Melissa), Christina Madonna (Steven), twins - Brian and Ryan Bowden, Stephanie Bowden and Amanda Bowden. Frederick is also survived by numerous great grandchildren and nieces/nephews. Frederick is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Susan Bowden (2020) and siblings; Leander Lagerstrom, Augusta Refsbeck, Ruth Tryanow, Alice Sandford and Emily Marchand. Fred, or sometimes called "Fritz", was a lifelong resident of East Haven. He was born in a small house on Coe Avenue. He was the youngest of six children. Fred played football at East Haven High School; after graduating, he joined the Army. He served during the Korean Conflict, spending most of his time teaching maintenance and repair of heavy equipment to other American soldiers in Eta Jima, Japan. After Fred's honorable discharge from the Army, he obtained a job at SNET. He met his wife there – Barbara Lynch Bowden. They were married in 1955. Fred built his house in East Haven and lived there with Barbara and their 4 children. Family was the most important thing to him. He was very active in the Bradford Manor Volunteer Fire Department as a member for almost 70 years, and also spent time volunteering at his church – Christ and Epiphany in East Haven. Fred volunteered with the East Haven Food Pantry and AT&T "Talking Books" repair for many years. He helped many people during his life, but always family first. Family will receive friends on Wednesday August 20, 2025 from 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. His funeral procession will then leave Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home for a funeral service at 11 AM in Christ & the Epiphany Church, 39 Park Place, East Haven with burial and full US Army Honors to follow at East Lawn Cemetery, East Haven. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Christ and the Epiphany Church, 39 Park Place, East Haven CT 06512 in memory of Frederick Bowden.

My deepest condolences to the Bowden family. I remember Fred being a steadfast parishioner at the early morning service at CEC. Due to the fact that it was an early service with a small group people, we all became like a church family. Fred was very much a part of that family. He will be greatly missed.
