Fred, or sometimes called "Fritz", was a lifelong resident of East Haven. He was born in a small house on Coe Avenue. He was the youngest of six children. Fred played football at East Haven High School; after graduating, he joined the Army. He served during the Korean Conflict, spending most of his time teaching maintenance and repair of heavy equipment to other American soldiers in Eta Jima, Japan.
After Fred's honorable discharge from the Army, he obtained a job at SNET. He met his wife there – Barbara Lynch Bowden. They were married in 1955. Fred built his house in East Haven and lived there with Barbara and their 4 children. Family was the most important thing to him. He was very active in the Bradford Manor Volunteer Fire Department as a member for almost 70 years, and also spent time volunteering at his church – Christ and Epiphany in East Haven. Fred volunteered with the East Haven Food Pantry and AT&T "Talking Books" repair for many years. He helped many people during his life, but always family first.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday August 20, 2025 from 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven.
