Geraldine Martin Obituary

Geraldine Ahearn Martin, a native of Hartford, Connecticut, died on 11 June 2025 at the age of 92. She was the daughter of Alfred and Eileen (Abare) Ahearn and the beloved wife of Robert L. Martin, also deceased, whom she met at Hartford High. Bob was Geri's only love – they enjoyed their time together and Geri kept him in her thoughts and prayers everyday of her life. Although Geri lived the first part of her life in Connecticut, her husband's job led her to live during periods in Bermuda and Italy, until they finally settled in Southern Mississippi, first in Picayune and then in Diamondhead. During the more than 40 years Geri lived in Mississippi she was referred to by anyone who met her as "Ms Geri" which was also the vanity license plate on her car. Geri loved cars and she told one story of the little old lady getting a pass from a patrol officer who had pulled her over for driving a little above the speed limit. Geri was a devoted wife and mother. She was devoted to her faith and active in her church, Most Holy Trinity in Pass Christian MS. She loved playing golf, bridge, painting, cooking and being a fashionista. No matter if she was just sitting in her house or heading out on an errand Geri was always dressed to the nine's. She had a great fashion sense. She always wanted to look her best, and her best was really, really good. Her name brand slacks, blouses and jackets from her regular visits to her favorite discount department store were always accompanied by one of her ever-growing selection of brooches given to her by family and friends. She loved to talk to people – friends and strangers alike. The latter were often drawn into a friendly conversation after they commented on the stunning brooch she was wearing or her outfit. Geri would quickly connect with a smile, ask them about their day, did they enjoy their work and before they knew it, they were smiling too. Geri took great pride and satisfaction in every home in which she lived – making it her own with an eye to design and entertaining. She had a great sense of decorating and style and symmetry and colors and what worked together. Many who visited her homes or helped her furnish them felt she may have missed her calling in that regard. Geri was a gracious hostess, making everyone feel invited with her great story telling ability and sense of humor – leaving everyone laughing. There was always plenty of great homemade food whenever she hosted guests as well as the ever-present bowl(s) of chocolate candies. Perhaps the only form of chocolate she enjoyed more than candy was her almost daily Starbucks Venti Decaf Mocha Latte with skim milk, extra hot, no whipped cream! Geri was a chocoholic. She had a sign in her kitchen – "Life is too short, eat desert first". You gotta love that. Geri is survived by her five sons, Stephen, Jeffrey, Jonathan, James and Michael and three of her four sisters: Barbara Perrone, Carol Riley and Pamela Visco. Her beloved sister Sandra Steers passed away in 2006. Geri is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Sam, Anthony, Rebecca, Katie, Ryan, Reed, Lilly and 6 great-grandchildren: Annie, Rosie, Sawyer, Elena, Rhys and Andie. A Visitation from 10:00-11:00AM ET, followed by a 11:00AM ET Mass in her memory will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Wintonbury Ave, Bloomfield, CT 06002.
