Gloria Harlow Obituary
Gloria Eleanor Harlow, 101, of Simsbury, CT, passed away peacefully and with dignity in Simsbury, joining her late husband, Hollis R Harlow, Jr. on March 3, 2025. Gloria first met her beloved Hollis during their college years, but due to her self-professed shyness, they didn't marry until nearly 40 years later. Though he predeceased her, they are now reunited, and this time, he only had to wait 17 years to be together once again.
Born in Hartford, CT, to Herbert and Louetta (Dahm) Huntington, she graduated from Teaneck High School in New Jersey and later attended the University of Hartford. Throughout her life, Gloria was deeply involved in her community, whether that be NJ, Oklahoma or various towns in Hartford County in CT. She enjoyed traveling, playing golf at the Hopmeadow Country Club and was an active member of several local churches, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School. These included Broadview Coventry Church, Hartford First Church in Simsbury, and St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Avon. Gloria retired from the Hartford after 30 years of service. She was also committed volunteer including the Simsbury Women's Club, the McLean Auxiliary, the Second Chance Shop and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Gloria was predeceased by her husband, Hollis, her parents, Herb and Louetta, her dear cousin J. Herbert Dahm Jr., and many special friends. Gloria is survived by her cousins Lois Dahm of Boca Raton, FL and Carolee Ann (Dahm) Fitzgerald of Virgina Beach, VA, and special first cousins once removed Guy Towle of Briarcliff Manor, NY. and Kathryn Dahm Girardin of Westfield, MA, and her dear friends, Shari Rouke, Linda Ferrari and Kathleen Radziewicz.
A special thanks to all of Gloria's caregivers at McLean with special notice to Rosie and Tina in Chapel Crossing who helped her pass with love.
Gloria was a strong, intelligent, and independent woman. She lived her life with purpose and faith.
A Graveside service will be scheduled shortly to be held at the Granby Cemetery, 6 N. Granby Road, Granby, CT 06035. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to "The Grateful Gift" at McLean (https://mcleancare.org/about-us/support-us/) where she was able to live independently for many years before receiving care from the excellent team in the assistive living and nursing home neighborhood of McLean.
