Helen Albis Obituary
It is with deep sadness that the family of Helen Marie Albis (nee Malinske) of East Haven announces her passing on May 9, 2025, at the age of 100.
Helen Albis was born on April 8, 1925, in Milwaukee, WI, daughter of the late Anton and Helen Stefan Malinske, where she spent her formative years and went on to earn a degree in medical technology at Marquette University. It was here that she met the love of her life and husband of 49 years, who was attending medical school there. They married and moved to Connecticut, eventually settling in East Haven, where Helen lived for over 70 years.
Helen was a loving wife to her late husband, Francis Albis, and a devoted mother to her seven children. Family and home came first; her biggest source of pride was her children. She had a passion for cooking and baking, and her homemade dishes were always the highlight of family gatherings. An avid reader, she also enjoyed crossword puzzles and handicrafts. Prior to starting a family, she worked beside her husband in his medical practice, and after her children were grown, she assisted in her son's law office. A dedicated parishioner of Saint Vincent de Paul Church, she volunteered as a CCD instructor. In later life, she volunteered in the pediatric unit at Yale New Haven Hospital.
She is survived by her children, Barbara Wasserman and her partner, Ron Chambers; John and his wife, Louise; Helen Pollio and her husband, Michael; Michael and his wife, Jacqueline; Nancy Shea and her husband, Bruce; Francis and his wife, Leslie Hazen; and Robert and his wife, Mary. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, and by 20 (and counting) great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Helen's goddaughter, Sue Crisafi, for her love and attention, and to Helen's caregivers, Elisa, Dee, Valentina, and Shanice, for their devotion and kindness.
Rest in peace, dear mother. You will forever be in our hearts and memories.
