Helen Mazur Obituary
Helen Mazur, 104, of West Hartford, beloved wife for 56 years of the late Stanley Mazur, passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Home in West Hartford, on Sunday, October 26, 2025. Born in Brooklyn, NY on July 4, 1921, daughter of the late John and Mary Lik, she was raised in Brooklyn, NY and had lived in Hartford for 68 years before moving to West Hartford six years ago.
As a young woman, Helen was trained as a seamstress and made dresses and other custom clothing in the garment district in Manhattan. After moving to Hartford, Helen worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a grinder during World War II and later worked at G. Fox & Co. in downtown Hartford in the cosmetics department and as a crossing guard for the Hartford Public Schools. She later took a position as a check filing clerk at Hartford National Bank where she worked until her retirement in 1990.
Throughout her life, Helen loved caring for her family and helping other people. She often altered clothes for her family and friends drawing on her years as a seamstress in New York. After her retirement, Helen enjoyed traveling with husband and walking around their neighborhood and spending time with other seniors at the Parkville Senior Center and at the Golden Senior Fellowship Club at her church. Since she lived close to Trinity College, Helen and Stanley frequented many of the guest lecturer's presentations on campus. A devout Catholic throughout her life, Helen was a communicant of SS. Cyril & Methodius Church in Hartford where she enjoyed attending Mass and other functions within the life of the parish.
She leaves a son, Stanley Mazur of West Hartford; a son-in-law, Frank Brady of Shelton; three grandchildren, Colleen Jewell and her husband Keith of Warren, Francine Putnick and her husband Mike of Torrington, and Christopher Brady and his wife Lisa of Shelton; seven great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Lamson, James Lamson, MaKenna Brady, Gavin Brady, Reilly Brady, Laura Brady, and Jhon Brady. In addition to her husband Stanley, she was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Ann Brady; three brothers, Chester, Joseph and Frank Lik; three sisters, Genevieve, Anna, and Blanche; and by her great-granddaughter, Kara Putnick.
Her family will receive friends on Friday, November 14, 4-7 p.m., at the Waszkelewicz South Green Memorial Home, 43 Wethersfield Ave., Hartford. Family and friends may gather on Saturday, November 15, 9:15 a.m., at the Waszkelewicz South Green Memorial Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, 63 Popieluszko Court, Hartford. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
