Henry Cosenza Obituary

Henry Charles Cosenza, 86 of North Haven, entered the arms of the Lord on January 14, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 30, 1938 in New Haven Connecticut to the late Alfred and Antoinette (Bove) Cosenza. He was married to his true love, the late Sandra (MacKinnon) Cosenza for 49 years. He was a proud and loving father to his two daughters, Robyn Cosenza (Jan Willem Koster) and Jennifer Lamb (Kevin). He was also the ever-fun loving "Papa" to his two cherished grandchildren Ian Henry and Jaimeson Elise Lamb, who he loved spending time with. He also leaves a loving nephew and niece, Lloyd (Jack) and Tara MacKinnon and four great nieces. Henry graduated from Wilbur Cross High School in 1957 and began his career working for the family owned home heating business, Cosenza Brothers Oil Company of North Haven. In 1979 he became President of Cosenza Oil Company Inc. His work ethic was unparalleled, delivering oil and repairing furnaces providing twenty-four hour service regardless of the weather. He was a kind and compassionate soul, not only to his family, but those hundreds of customers he served. No one went without heat or hot water, even those without enough resources or means. Henry's quick wit, love of laughter and signature humming at mealtime were his trademarks. He was proud of his Italian heritage and enjoyed cooking traditional Italian meals and sharing them with his family and at holiday gatherings. He was a man of faith and a lifelong parishioner of St. Donato's Catholic Church in Fair Haven until its closing, even serving as an altar boy until the age of 21. When not working and through retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife Sandy and trips to Disney World and Italy with his family and grandchildren. The visiting hours will be Saturday morning January 18, 2025 from 9:00 to 11:00 in the Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at Saint Therese Church, 555 Middletown Avenue, North Haven at 11:30 AM. Entombment will follow in the All Saints Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the CT Hospice, Inc. 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405. Sandra
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Even though we haven't been in communication I have fond memories of Henry from swimming at your family pool when I was a kid with my parents to oil deliveries in West Haven.

We knew Henry & Sandra from coming in our deli for years. They were both nice hard-working people who were kind and always fair doing business.

I was privileged to work for Henry from 1996- 2007 when he retired . His devotion to his elderly customers was endless . Often finding a rare part to give an old furnace a few more years . We grew to have a strong mutual respect for each other . Truly the last of the old school .

Henry was one of the 'older' cousins who was a true role model for the 'younger' Bove cousins. He was at every family gathering on Howard Ave, always the respectful grandson to Nonnie Bove & Grandma and could be counted on for causing some ruckus that we all got blamed for (except him!)  .  He also showed us how to be a good son to loving parents, especially by taking over the Cosenza Oil business from Uncle Fred - he wanted the legacy that your grandfather built to continue. May his memory be a blessing
