Ismael "Izzy" Torres

Ismael Torres, 85, beloved husband of Beatriz (Gonzalez) Torres, of Wallingford, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 23, 2025, at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden. Born on April 8, 1940, in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, Ismael was the cherished son of the late Luis and Carmen (Bonilla) Torres. Affectionately known as "Izzy" to his lifelong friends, Ismael was a pillar of strength, warmth, and generosity within his family and the Wallingford community. In his early twenties, he left Puerto Rico for Connecticut, where he and Beatriz built a loving home and shared over 62 wonderful years together, raising four children and creating countless treasured memories. Ismael dedicated more than forty years of his life as a steel worker at Allegheny Ludlum Steel in Wallingford. His unwavering commitment and tireless work ethic were matched only by the love and care he poured into his family. Beyond his career, Ismael found happiness in simple pleasures-fishing, tending to his garden, playing bingo, dancing, and filling the air with music from his guitar. His infectious sense of humor and welcoming smile made everyone feel at home, and he had a remarkable gift for turning strangers into friends. He is survived by his devoted wife, Beatriz Torres; his children, Migdalia Sabetta, Marisol O'Connor, Ismael Torres, Jr., and Maribel Coulter along with her husband, Douglas Coulter. He will be missed and mourned by his grandchildren, Jason and Jackie Sabetta, Trevor, Justin, and Christian Coulter; his sister, Delia Bonilla; and his brother, Miquel Torres; countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ismael will be remembered for his deep devotion to family, his kindness, his joyful laughter, and the strength of character that inspired all who knew him. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Ismael's life at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., on Monday, June 30th, from 5pm to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 North Colony Street, Wallingford, on Tuesday, July 1st at 11am, followed by interment in St. John Cemetery.
