Jack Wood Obituary

John Bartlett Wood, known to all as Jack, passed away on September 30, 2025 at home with his family. He was born on February 4, 1930 in Whitinsville, MA to the late Chief of Police Leslie Wood and the late Virginia (Bartlett) Wood. He was preceded in death by his son Joshua John Wood. He leaves behind his wife Jean (Gerke) Wood of Branford, his daughters Jennifer Centore of Branford and Rachel Rangelov (Robert) of Tampa, FL, his granddaughter Jax Burton of Branford, who was named for him, and his grandson Alexander Rangelov of Tampa, his special cousin Connie Dale of CA, who was like a sister. He is also survived by many lifelong friends and family. We would like to say a special thank you to his aides, Kyle, his right-hand man and Cierra ,who cooked like an angel for all of us, Gabby, his O. T. and Shrada, his P. T. Without them we would never have been able to keep him at home. Also, Visiting Angels and CT Hospice of Branford. They will always be a part of our family. Jack was a graduate of Northbridge High School, class of 1947. After he graduated from Clarkson University in New York State, with a degree in Civil Engineering, where he was a part of the ROTC program, he went to serve as a First Lieutenant in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as an estimator and project manger of heavy construction projects in five states. His work also included projects in Europe and Baffin Island. He loved to ski, play tennis, and sail his sailboat with his friends. Hiking Mt. Katahdin in Maine with his cousin Jon Dale was one of his greatest memories. His love of poetry started at a young age and stayed with him until the end. He would quote Shakespeare to Dylan with ease. After moving to Branford, he became a founding member and board member of the Shoreline Greenway Trail. He was always interested in the preservation of the environment and would insist on putting spiders outside that were found in the house. He will be remembered for his love for his family, his genuine sincerity and being a loving man to all. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Civil Liberties Union or the Branford Food Bank. For an online memorial and guestbook please see www.wsclancy.com.
