Dr. James Edward Brady, 89, peacefully passed away on September 9, 2025. Jim was born in Meriden, CT on June 9, 1936 to the late James and Elsie (Pfrommer). He attended Lyman Hall High School and went on to serve in a MASH unit attached to the First Cavalry Division of the United States Army in post-hostilities Korea.
Jim's love for education began when he was a history teacher at Dag Hammarskjold Middle School after receiving his degree from Southern Connecticut State University. Following this, he pursued a master's degree from Trinity College and a Ph.D. from Syracuse University. It was with great passion that he served as both a professor and administrator for a variety of colleges and universities.
Jim's greatest pride and joy was his family. Jim was a loving father and proud grandfather who never missed the chance to spend time with family or celebrate an accomplishment. He is predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law Robert and Ann Marie Brady as well as his son-in-law Craig Naumec. He is survived by his children: Kathleen Ricci, Mary Naumec, and James G. Brady. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Joseph, Melissa, Sophia and James Benjamin as well as several nieces and nephews.
Jim enjoyed being an active member of the Wallingford community. For over 40 years, he refereed football games at local high schools and prep schools. In addition, he found great pleasure in volunteering with The Cove for Grieving Children and completing the 26.2 mile Jimmy Fund Walk to support cancer research. When he was not spending time with family or volunteering in the community, one could find him at the Wallingford Elks Club catching up with friends. Jim was also fond of reading The New York Times and traveling to explore a new place.
The family will be eternally grateful for the exceptional care and kindness provided by The Village at Kensington Place in Meriden and the Veterans Administration - specifically the VA Medical Centers in Newington and West Haven. In his final days, West Haven's Floor 6 East and the Community Living Center South Harbor provided him with great comfort and loving compassion.
