James A. "Jim" McCormack, 75 of Sint Maarten and Middletown, RI, beloved husband of Mary-Beth (Mango) McCormack, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Newport Hospital. Jim faced his health challenges with remarkable strength and perseverance, continually defying the odds for many years. Born in Waterbury, CT, son of the late Michael J. McCormack Sr. and Mary Rose (Guarrera) McCormack, Jim grew up in Waterbury and was a proud graduate of Wilby High School, Class of 1968. Shortly after, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served bravely in the Vietnam War. A highly decorated veteran, Jim received two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars among his many honors for valor and sacrifice. After his service, he graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1976 and became a lifelong UCONN basketball fan. Jim worked as Purchasing Manager at Summit Plating in Thomaston until 1995. Known as "Mr. Mom," Jim devoted himself wholeheartedly to his wife and raising his children in Wolcott, CT and never missed a chance to coach their teams, cheer them on, and support them in every endeavor. One of Jim's greatest joys was living in St. Maarten with his wife of 48 years where they cherished beach days with friends, sunsets on the patio, and volunteering on the island. Whether traveling, or simply sharing a margarita with friends, Jim lived with generosity, humor, and a deep love for those around him. In addition to his wife, Mary-Beth, he leaves behind his son, Shawn McCormack and wife Jamie, and grandchildren MJ and Riley of San Antonio, TX; his daughter, Marci McCormack and husband Justen Barrett of Portsmouth, RI; his brother, Michael McCormack and wife Mary Anne of Middlebury; and his sister, Mary Kay Jackman of Waterbury. Jim was predeceased by his brother, Thomas McCormack. Family and friends were such an important part of Jim's life. He was also a beloved uncle to many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
