James Oktavec Obituary

James M. Oktavec, Sr., 89, of Middletown, formerly of Higganum, beloved husband of Beverly (Dombrowski) Oktavec passed away on Friday October 3, 2025. He was born in Hartford, son of the Late Frank J. and Thora (Christensen) Oktavec. Jim served with the US Army. He was an employee with Pratt & Whitney and later retired from Greenwald Industries in Chester. Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly; his son, James Oktavec (Jennifer); his daughter, Kim Oktavec-Gustamachio; and his stepchildren: Lin-Marie Oakliff, Angelo Lastrina (Eileen), Annette Lastrina-Aitken, and Lori Branciforte (Robert). He was cherished by thirteen grandchildren, Leah Gustamachio, Joseph Lastrina, III, Justin Oakliff (Anna), Kristina Oakliff, Melanie Hayes, (Eric), Angelo Lastrina (Arielle), Joseph Aitken, Kyle Aitken, Mariah Lastrina, Isabelle Lastrina, Robert Branciforte (Jessica), Jonathon Branciforte (Nicole) Anthony Branciforte, and ten great-grandchildren, Camryn, Emma, Michael, Madelyn, Scarlett, Sienna, Angelo, Luciano, Brooklyn, Elliana, all of whom adored him, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Frank Oktavec, Jr. and Albert Oktavec, sister, Anna Manke, grandchildren Martin Oktavec and Brendon Lastrina, stepsons, Joe Lastrina, Jr., Michael Lastrina, and son-in-law, Scott Oakliff. Jim's legacy will live on for many years to come. He was a devoted husband-truly beyond compare. He cherished every moment with Beverly and dedicated his life to her wellbeing. Jim (forever Santa) loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren unconditionally, often delighting (and occasionally embarrassing) them with his sharp wit and unbreakable sense of humor. We won't mention the tutu! He also treasured the many fun-filled years of travel with Beverly, her sister Marylou and Harv, and cousins Patti and Chubby. His Funeral Liturgy will be held on Monday October 13th at 10:00am at St. Mary Church, 51 Freestone Ave. Portland. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family at the State Veterans' Cemetery. Family and friends may gather prior to the service from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Monday at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver Street. Middletown.
