James Sansone Obituary

James C Sansone, lovingly known as "Poppy," of Cheshire, CT, formerly of Northford, CT, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born in New Haven on June 4, 1935, the son of the late James V. Sansone and Rose Proto Sansone. In addition to his devoted wife of 66 years, Roberta J. Maresca Sansone, James is survived by his children: Michael (Kathleen) Sansone, Vincent (Laurie) Sansone, James (Deborah) Sansone, and Lori (Paul) DiMatteo; his cherished grandchildren: Alexis, Samantha, Andie, Michael Jr., Matthew (Jessica), Vincent Jr., Nicholas, Kayla, James (Riley Jo) and Joseph Sansone, Abigail, Jack, Grace, Ava, and Sawyer DiMatteo; and his great-grandchildren: Greyson, Charlotte, Madeline, and Isabella. He also leaves behind his brother, Anthony Sansone, and his sister, Mary Rose (Jack) Brockett, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Christopher Sansone, sisters-in-laws Nancy and Carol Sansone. Jim graduated in 1952 from Boardman Trade High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 and was a decorated veteran of the Korean War. In 1955, he began his professional career in the printing industry. A true entrepreneur, Jim founded his first business, Classic Printing Co., at the age of 28. In 1985, he launched one of the country's first Apple Macintosh-based desktop publishing companies and was recognized by Apple as the prototype design studio of the future. By 1990, he had again broken new ground, becoming the first to deliver a weekly publication direct-to-press for the New York Times Magazine Group. In 1995, his company became one of the first interactive digital web agencies in the nation. Under Jim's visionary leadership, what started as a traditional offset typesetting firm grew into a pioneering digital agency serving some of the country's most recognized brands. Jim was a devout Catholic and a man deeply devoted to his faith, his wife and his family. He found great joy in cooking, especially his famous fried dough pizza, and in spending time with his large and loving family. The pride of his life was watching and supporting his children and grandchildren play sports. He traveled far and wide to be there, becoming a familiar and beloved presence in the stands and on the sidelines. Jim also treasured time spent with his extended "family" at Elim Park. Jim was a Eucharistic Minister at Saint Monica's Church in Northford, and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Walter Camp Football Foundation. Family and friends are invited to go directly to St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Ave., North Haven on Wednesday morning, August 6th at 10:00 to attend a Mass of Christian burial. Entombment with full military honors will follow at the All Saints Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions be made in James Sansone's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital stjude.org or Tunnel to Towers Foundation t2t.org>donate

I´ve known jimmy nearly 40 years. He was a wonderful man with a heart of gold. He was devoted to his wife Bobbie and the rest of his family. I never saw him angry. He prayed daily and had the patience of a saint. He will surely be missed and remembered for love he shared with everyone who knew him well. He is with God now and has become an angel who will look down and protect his loved ones. I love you jimmy and will always remember the kindness you shared with everyone you met. To know you was to love you. You never hesitated to help someone in need. Heaven certainly does have a new angel. You will never be forgotten.

My sincere condolences to the entire Sansone family during this time of sorrow. Vin and Jim brought Mr Sansone into our Hamden Edge facility one day and we had a great conversation reminiscing about the old days of Northford and Branford. Sir, may you rest in peace. The Lord has received a warrior.

When I began my business over 45 years ago, Jim was instrumental in helping me in so many ways when he ran the Type House in Hamden. May his memory be for a blessing.
