Jane Gosselin Obituary

Jane Marie (Buttner) Gosselin, wife of the late Roger H. Gosselin, died on Monday, March 31, 2025 at Masonicare in Wallingford after a lengthy illness following a stroke. She was 95. The daughter of the late Howard F. and Caroline J. (Schwartz) Buttner, Jane lived most of her life in Meriden, growing up near Hubbard Park, where she, her sister and their friends often ice skated in the winter. At Meriden High School, Jane earned a coveted spot on the cheerleading team, raising school spirit for the old red and blue before her graduation in 1947. After marrying Roger, the love of her life, in 1952, Jane mastered the fine art of dealing with scrapes, bruises and stitches through the 1960s and 1970s as the mother of three boys. Along the way, Jane shared her love of board games, the value of saving for the future and the importance of nurturing your talents. Home and family were increasingly at the center of her life as the years went by. Jane perfected homemaking before anyone had ever heard of Martha Stewart. She decorated her house for all the holidays, starting with Valentine's Day and ending with a flourish at Christmas, all her creative talents on full display. For decades, Jane delighted in hosting large family gatherings alongside Roger, her Christmas cookies and Blitz Torte particular specialties. There was nothing better, she said, than having the family all together. Jane possessed a remarkable talent for gardening, a trait she inherited from her mother. Her signature daffodils blossomed by the hundreds each spring on a bank in front of her house. In her later years, Jane noted that she didn't need to go to the annual Daffodil Festival at Hubbard Park because she had one in her own yard. A die-hard – sometimes long-suffering – sports fan, she was rewarded in 2004 when her Boston Red Sox won their first World Series trophy in her lifetime. Jane also closely followed the Boston Bruins – her beloved 'Bs' – and she was never without a cowbell in hand for the many games she attended. Jane also regularly tuned into TCM as a classic movie fan, especially for the 1940s film noirs of which 'Laura' was a favorite. Jane proved remarkably resilient into her 90s, rebuilding her life after the passing of her husband of 59 years. At age 92, she opted for a hip replacement rather than relinquish her active lifestyle, providing inspiration to anyone who faced a medical challenge. Even though she was later sidelined by a stroke, she never let go of a hopeful outlook for the future or the unmistakable sincerity that always accompanied her now famous parting tagline, 'Love you more.' Jane is survived by her children, David C. Gosselin, of Meriden, Kenneth R. Gosselin and his wife, Lori, of Glastonbury and Stephen M. Gosselin, of Meriden; six grandchildren, Jennifer Senick and her husband, Peter, Matthew Gosselin, Tamsin-Marie Almonte and her husband, Miguel, Stephen-Eugene Gosselin and his wife, Jessica, Christopher Gosselin and Thomas Gosselin; and eight great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Irene (Gosselin) Connolly; many nieces and nephews, including Carol Sieracki, Linda Mercuri, Diane Annelli and Susan Schade; and special friends, Lorrie Testa-Gosselin, Jo Ann Barry and Maria Carlino. Jane was predeceased by her beloved sister, Beverly (Buttner) Beaumier Grime, a daughter-in-law, Martha Gosselin, and her longtime 'gal pal' Gloria Mercuri. Much gratitude goes out to Jane's dedicated, loving caregivers at Masonicare, especially on Ramage 4 and in the therapy department where 'Miss Jane' was a favorite. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden, CT 06450, on Monday, April 7th from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 8th at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center St., Meriden, CT 06450.
