Janet Turon Obituary
Loving Wife, Daughter, Mother, Sister, Aunt, Friend
It is with deep sadness and profound grief that we share the passing of Janet Turon, 61, of East Hartland. While embraced in the love of her family she entered into eternal rest on September 13, 2025 at Hartford Hospital. She was the devoted wife of John Turon. Born May 14, 1964 in Bronx NY, a daughter of Joann Hellthaler and the late Edward Smeriglio.
As a medical coder, Janet worked for many years for Charlotte Hungerford Hospital before transitioning to Hartford Healthcare. She attained her Associate's degree from Branford Career Hall Institute. Her attention to detail and time management skills enabled her to continue working throughout her illness. She will certainly be missed.
Janet was a loving mother who inspired her daughters to explore their dreams, pursue excellence and attain their heartfelt goals. She was an avid cyclist, loved being in nature and her best pup Ella, her Bernese Mountain dog. She loved John, her family, friends, hiking, pepperoni pizza, the color purple, Diet Pepsi, cycling, shopping, and her animals. A perfect day for Janet could be envisioned as cycling on her bike "Zoey" with John, her family and her friends and co-members of the BABBs (Bad Ass Biker Bitches) Group while wearing her purple Princess outfit followed by lunch of pepperoni pizza, Diet Pepsi with ice cream for dessert, and concluding the day with snuggles from Ella in quiet solace with John. Janet loved butterflies, their delicate wings and beauty a testament to the transformation from darkness to the freedom of flight and delicate beauty. Her cancer diagnosis presented a new challenge for Janet that she approached with grace, strength of spirit and determination. Her family was her safe haven, their support throughout her illness the primary source of strength. She leaves a legacy of love, beauty and devotion to family. Her life, although short, leaves a treasure trove of beautiful memories for all those blessed to have known her
Besides her loving husband John, Janet leaves to cherish her love and memory her beloved mother Joann Smeriglio, her daughters Janine DaCosta and husband David of Waterbury and Amy Cooper and husband Michael Magas of Beacon Falls as well as their father Wesley Cooper. Janet also leaves John's children who became Janet's sons gifted by love: Andrew and his wife Michelle of Litchfield, Jacob and his wife Becca of Barkhamsted and Thomas and his wife Jessica of Granby and her precious grandson Noah. Janet also leaves her sister Elaine Smeriglio of FL and her brother Edward Smeriglio and his wife Cecelia of VA. as well as niece Corinne Aleshire of VA and nephew Jamie Smeriglio of FL. and so many wonderful friends.
Janet's family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Hartford Healthcare for helping her fight her battle.
Life is not counted by years but by the love and memories lived along the way. Her light shines bright in the hearts of all who knew her.
