Jean Reed Obituary

Jean Katherine (Reynolds) Reed, 87, beloved wife of John C. Reed, Lt Commander, USN, Ret., of Ludlow, MA and formerly of Windsor, CT, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family. Jean was born in Washington, DC, daughter of the late Fred and Ethel (Bolgiano) Reynolds, and grew up in Baltimore, MD and Jacksonville, FL, where she went to the beach nearly every day. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Florida State University after attending Queens University in Charlotte, NC. She and John raised their four children in Maryland, Virginia, Germany, and Windsor, CT, where they lived for 34 years. Jean was a teacher at Sage Park Middle School in Windsor for many years before her retirement. She loved participating in her children's activities, spending time with her many grandchildren and her cats, going to the beach, teaching, traveling, camping, reading, writing, sewing, coloring, playing cards and games, and participating in her book club with her close friend Rosalyn Gutterman. She was a longtime member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Manchester, CT where she and John sang in the choir for many years. Jean will be remembered for her intellect, sense of humor and, above all, her insistence on being kind to everyone-especially those who don't fit in. Besides her husband of nearly 64 years, she leaves her children Karla Anne Reed Paxton of Gardner, MA and her partner Diego, Barbara Jean Boulanger of Shutesbury, MA and her husband Matt, Paul L. Reed, Rear Admiral, USN, Ret. of Sykesville, MD and his wife Shannon, and Andrew C. Reed of Newton, MA and his wife Allison; grandchildren Sam, Dan, Aden, Liam, Jordan, Lexi, Matthew, Haley, Maddie, Alex, and Greta; great-grandchildren Mia, Oliviya, Aria, Rio, Ana and Ava; brother Bill and his wife Sue of Chattanooga, TN and brother-in-law Tom and his wife Sharon of Middletown, CT and Clermont, FL; nieces Donna and Amy and nephew Adam. She is predeceased by grandchildren Ben and Gabriella. Her family will receive friends Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 11AM -1 PM at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor, CT. To the Reed family,
I am sure that you know that Jean was one of the kindest, sweetest women ever. Her SP coworkers admired and loved her. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. Rest in peace in the arms of Jesus, Jean and God bless her family.
