Jennifer Fortin Obituary

Jennifer H. Fortin, 62, of Newington died on August 3, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Jennifer was born in Hartford on December 3, 1962, a daughter of Kenneth W. Horton, Sr. and Joan C. Horton. She grew up in Glastonbury and lived most of her adult life in Newington. She was a graduate of Glastonbury High School and UMass Lowell, where she received a B.S. in Industrial Technology. She was a Continuous Improvement Lead with GKN Aerospace at the time of her death. She is survived by John L. Fortin, her husband of 36 years, her mother Joan C. Horton of Newington, her siblings Diane H. Teigiser (John) of Boyds, MD, Kenneth W. Horton, Jr. (Eileen Bartley) of South Glastonbury, and Jeffrey C. Horton (Neil Pandora) of Branford. She is also survived by her in-laws Mary Ann Fortin of West Hartford; David Gilman, Larry Fortin, and Nancy Fortin of Westerley, RI; and nine nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Kenneth W. Horton, Sr., her brothers-in-law David and Steven Fortin, sister-in-law Marie Gilman, her mother-in-law Bronya Fortin, and her father-in-law Laurent Fortin. Jennifer was an incredibly selfless, kind, and thoughtful person with a delightful sense of humor. She loved her family, friends, animals, and community. She volunteered at the Connecticut Humane Society, Hartford Hospice, Wethersfield Dog Park, Hartford Marathon Foundation, and the Bushnell Memorial. Over the course of her adult life, she had a menagerie of pets, including Chelsea, a guinea pig that moved with her to Germany for several years, a mischievous cat named Tom who liked to sit on top of the refrigerator, and seven slightly rickety Golden Retriever rescues: Pete, Buddy, Drew, Jenny, George, Archie, and Ollie. There is no doubt that her furry friends had a joyful reunion with her at the Rainbow Bridge and safely guided her to the other side. In memory of Jen, do as she did - love your family fiercely, serve your community, and be kind to one another. A private service will be held to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations to Tennessee Valley Golden Retriever Rescue, PO Box 32973, Knoxville, TN 37930 in honor of Jennifer are appreciated. Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington is serving her family. To share a memory, please visit us at www.duksa.net.

I am saddened to learn of Jen´s passing. I met her in early 2009 when she became my real estate agent. This was during the housing crisis. I was selling my house in Middletown and looking to buy in Niantic. Jen held my hand through two fallen sales and we had several adventures looking at houses in Niantic. Her calming and reassurance got me through. We continue to meet several times a year in friendship catching up. In recent years we lost touch but I have many memories of this wonderful friend. I moved to an apartment in NC last year and am now looking to buy a home. Oh how I wish Jen was here to guide me...maybe she is. Rest well my friend.
