Joan M. Oberg

Joan M. Oberg, beloved wife, mother, "Mema", sister, aunt and friend to all who passed through her door, passed away September 27, 2025, at the age of 94. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she was one of six children and the only daughter of Gladys and Jack Kerr. Two of her brothers, Jay and Jimmy, survive her. She met her husband Arne, the captain of the football team, while attending Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon), and they moved to Connecticut upon their marriage, where they remained for the rest of her life, though whenever asked, they always said they were "from Pittsburgh". In the middle of the winter of their first year of marriage, she made Arne take her on a day trip to the tip of Cape Cod after having read "The Outermost House " as a child, and that began a love for the Cape that they shared with their children, grandchildren and family for the rest of their married life. When their children were nearly grown, Arne's job took them to Nottingham, England where they lived for nearly four years, and during that time they traveled all over Europe, with co-workers, family and friends, memories that Arne and Joan shared as some of their fondest life experiences until her passing. In addition to her husband of 73 years, Arne, she leaves to remember her life well lived, her children: Peggy (Jean), Mary (Steven), Amy (Jacqui) and Kathleen (Art), son-in-law Bob (Suzanne), four grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, sisters-in law, cousins, nieces and nephews in Pittsburgh and throughout the US. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Nancy, and a grandson. At her request, her remains have been cremated, and at a private memorial in the future her ashes will be spread at Cape Cod with her daughter Nan.
