John Bodnar Obituary
John T. Bodnar, 60, of West Hartford, beloved son, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend, passed away on June 30, 2025.
Born and raised in West Hartford, Connecticut, John was the cherished son of the late Teodor and Jadwiga Bodnar and the beloved brother of the late Bogdan Bodnar. He graduated from Prince Tech in Hartford, where he earned an Associate Degree in Electronics.
John began his career at Hamilton as an electronics specialist and also regularly helped at his mother's package store in Suffield during nights and weekends. Over the years, he worked in a wide range of roles, including positions at Disney, ESPN, Delta Airlines, and Radio Shack, and also served as a dispatcher and radio reporter.
John was a proud and active member of the Ukrainian American community. He was deeply involved with the Ukrainian American Youth Association and the Ukrainian National Home of Hartford, and was a lifelong member of St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hartford.
A passionate advocate for the disabled, John never let his own disability define or limit him. He actively petitioned for improved accessibility, safer sidewalks and crosswalks, and better support services. His tireless efforts and remarkable spirit made him a true leader and inspiration to many.
John's warmth, determination, and positive attitude touched all who knew him. His friendships were deep and lasting-he leaves behind a close-knit group of friends whose bond and loyalty were unmatched.
John is survived by his aunt, Lucyna Kaminska; his cousin, Gosia, her husband, Bohdan, and their children, Olya, Sophia, and Lucynka; his sister-in-law, Julie Bodnar; his niece, Gianna Rossi, her husband, Tyler, and their children, Theo and Mia; his nephew, Julian Bodnar; as well as countless extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
A private memorial service will be held in honor of John's life. Memorial donations in John's name can be made at https://www.gofundme.com/f/memorial-service-for-john-t-bodnar. Funds will be used for memorial expenses and/or donated to John's favorite organizations mentioned above.
