John J. Mik Jr.

John J. Mik Jr, 79, of Meriden, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in Meriden, after a lengthy battle with glioblastoma. John was born in Meriden on October 15, 1945, son of the late John J. Mik, Sr. and Bernice (Stefanowitz) Mik, and had been a lifelong Meriden resident. He graduated from H.C. Wilcox Technical High School in 1964 and is an inductee in their Sports Hall of Fame. Taking the knowledge of the trade, he learned in school, John worked for over forty years as a tool and die maker and continued to do so as a part-time hobby in his retirement at Wess Tool & Die Co. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce (Amann) Mik, their two sons and daughters-in-law, John Mik and Liz Kametz of Manchester, and Brian and Sarah Mik of Wallingford; his sister Rita Rowley of Meriden and his brothers Paul Mik of Meriden, Charles Mik and his wife Cheryl of Durham. He was predeceased by his oldest sister, Barbara Mik, who shared the same birthday ten years apart, and his brother-in-law, James Rowley. He leaves behind seven grandchildren, Brianna, Drew, Grace, Jordyn, Leah, Aidan, and Jonah, all of whom he adored. He's also survived by brother-in-law and sister-in-law David and Jean Amann and John and Cheryl Penwell, as well as several nieces and nephews. If you didn't find him at one of the many grandkids' sporting events or working at the shop, you'd see him working in his yard, walking in Hubbard Park, or lending a helping hand in the neighborhood and community. He was a dedicated Catholic who also served as a deacon at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Meriden. His unlimited supply of service will be sorely missed. Ferry & Son's Funeral Home, 88 East Main St, Meriden, on Monday, February 17, 2025, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday February 18, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels, Mount Carmel Church, 109 Goodwill Ave, Meriden. Everyone is asked to meet at the church. Burial to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, 250 Gypsy Lane, Meriden.
