John E. Morhous

John E. Morhous, 86, of Simsbury, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, August 10, 2025. Born on June 20, 1939, in Brooklyn Heights, New York, he was the son of the late John A. Morhous and Jacqueline Morhous. He grew up in Malverne, New York, with his siblings, Jeffrey Morhous and Jeryl Jones. A graduate of the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, John had a distinguished career in electrical engineering, contributing to advanced government communications systems and later pioneering early cellular technology. He was also responsible for some of the instrumentation panels on NASA's Space Shuttle. John's life was defined by his unwavering devotion to his wife, Marie Morhous, who survives him, and his children, Maria Morhous and Dr. Michael Morhous. He was known for his profound sense of responsibility and his playful, humorous nature. A lover of animals, he was also a fierce advocate for human rights, championing racial and gender equality and the rights of all people to love and live authentically. He enjoyed a lifelong passion for learning and was always eager to share his knowledge of science, spending hours teaching his children and repairing things himself. John was cremated, and his ashes will be spread at sea along with his wife's following her passing. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Carling Chapel at McLean Retirement Community, 75 Great Pond Road, Simsbury, CT 06070 with a reception to follow at The Pfirman Dining Room.
