John Samulis Obituary

Obituary of John C. Samulis https://www.stdunstanparish.org/livestream John Casimir Samulis (Kaz), 78, of Glastonbury, beloved husband of Anna Marie (Telep) Samulis, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. He was born on May 18, 1946 in Eichstatt, Germany to Romuladas and Elenora (Bitinas) Samulis, who fled their home country of Lithuania in 1944. Through their sponsorship by Mr. Kazickas, they arrived in the United States in 1949. Kaz learned the homebuilding trade by working with his father after school throughout his youth. He enlisted in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer in 1965. After serving in the military, Kaz went on to start his own successful businesses and worked as a general contractor for 46 years. After winning his battle with head and neck cancer in 2006, he retired. He enjoyed golf, bow hunting elk, and all manners of fishing. He loved reading historical books, his favorite being,"The History of Civilization," an 11 volume set by Will and Arial Durant. While in Connecticut, he enjoyed membership at Rockville Fish & Game Club. While attending University of New Haven, he was a member of Kappa Mu Sigma fraternity. He became a member of the Knights of Columbus in Sarasota, Florida, in 1985. He also enjoyed live theatre, especially musicals, so much so that the albums would play on repeat whether at home or driving in the car. His personal favorite was Fiddler on the Roof. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Besides his wife of 47 years, Anna Marie, Kaz is survived by his younger brother, Joseph and his wife Cinny of WA, 3 daughters and their spouses, Lydia of CT, Laura and Steve of WI, Lucia and Walter of CT, his brother in law and sister in law, Raymond and Cathy Telep of NJ, his brother in law and sister in law, Edward and Brenda Telep of, NJ, 7 grandchildren, Jonathan and his wife Erica, Juliana and her husband Jesse, Cassandra and her husband Andrew, Heather, Chloe, Jack, Leo, and 3 great-granddaughters, Stella, Letizia, Willow, and 2 nephews, Nicholas and Joseph, nieces, Stacey and her husband Bobby of NJ, Bethany of NJ, great nephews and niece, Zachary of NJ, Emma of TX, Matthew of NJ. He was predeceased by his parents, Romuladas and Elenora, his uncle, Father Antanas Bitinus, his sister, India Blue (Maria Samulis), his niece Robyn of NJ and his great-grandson, Luke Samuel. "Eik su Dievu." A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 11:30 am at Saint Dunstan Church, 1345 Manchester Road, Glastonbury. Private burial at Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Middletown will be at a later date. Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury.
