Joyce L. Phillips

Joyce L. Phillips, 86, of Colchester, formerly of East Windsor, beloved wife of the late Robert A. Phillips, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at home surrounded by family. Joyce was born in Hartford, CT, on June 12, 1939. She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Lilyan (Barnowski) Glidie. She grew up in Manchester and was a graduate of Manchester High School. She married the love of her life on January 23,1965. The couple moved to Broad Brook to raise their family. For six years she worked for the town of East Windsor as secretary to the first selectman until 1982. She then worked for Suffield Board of Education in the business office and retired in 2001. Joyce was active in town politics. She was a member of the East Windsor Board of Education for several years, including as chairman for part of that time. She attended Saint Catherine Church for many years where she established lasting friendships. She was a passionate fan of the Boston Red Sox, UConn Huskies men and women's basketball teams, San Diego State basketball, and she could often be found watching football or golf on TV. She leaves her daughter, Korin M. Phillips and her husband Erik Randlov of Colchester, her son, Robert A. Phillips and his wife Betty Phillips of Aliso Viejo, CA, her grandchildren, Nicholas Obey of Colchester, Jessica Obey of Marlborough, Hunter Phillips of CA; four step granddaughters, Kristen Sparrow, Lauren Heon, Katelyn Faski and Jordyn Randlov of Colchester; seven great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends for whom she cared deeply. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Gladys Pottinger, Andrea Glidie, Janice Santini and her niece, Lyn-Ann Felber. Her family will receive friends for calling hours on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 5-7 pm at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 20, 2025, 10:00 am, at St. Catherine Church, 6 Windsorville Rd., Broad Brook. A private burial will take place at Melrose Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the Joyce Phillips Memorial Scholarship fund will be established to honor her memory.
