Julie Haylon

Julie Haylon died September 19, 2025, at Hartford Hospital after a 7-month battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late Mr David and Mary Haylon. Julie grew up in West Hartford, CT. She attended Mount St. Joseph's Academy and graduated from Hall High School in 1979 after "The Mount" closed. She spent her summers in Niantic, CT at her family cottage and enjoyed The Niantic Bay Yacht Club where many memories were made at the beach and on the water. Julie graduated from Russell Sage College with a degree in Special Education, as well as obtaining her Masters and 6th year at CCSU. She spent her entire career following in her parent's footsteps, teaching in various schools in the Hartford School System, eventually retiring as a Director of Special Education with Hartford Public Schools. Professionally Julie followed the motto her father taught her, "Cherish every child." Julie enjoyed traveling near and far with her many friends. After retiring she continued teaching by becoming certified in Orton-Gillingham and tutoring children in reading. She was able to be a huge part of her granddaughter's first three years, making sure to pass on her love for candy corn. Julie is survived by her children, Gerald Morin and Rosemary Johnson and son in law Leroy Johnson and granddaughter Anastasia Johnson. She is also survived by her brothers Dennis J. Haylon, David "Deke" Haylon, Jr. and William "Wick" Haylon and sister-in-law Anette Haylon and nephews Caleb Haylon, Malachy Haylon and Declan Haylon. A celebration of life will be held on October 11, 2025, at The Niantic Bay Yacht Club at 1pm, casual dress. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Crescent Moon Cares Foundation and the Julie Haylon Memorial Scholarship. A special thanks goes to the Doctors, nurses, caseworkers, and social workers at Massachusetts General Hospital as well as Hartford Hospital. Julie and her family created many close connections with the nurses and physical therapists who helped care for her.
