June Heckart Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of June L. Heckart, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend. She passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 28, 2025, surrounded by her family. June was born on June 17, 1952, in Meriden, CT, to the late Herbert and Elizabeth Stetson. She graduated from Platt High School and went on to have a successful career in mortgage lending, helping hundreds of families turn their dreams of home ownership into reality. June was known for her love of crafts, and her creativity was evident in her crocheted blankets, sewing projects, dollhouses, and scrapbooks - just to name a few. With much love and patience, she taught her family and friends how to crochet. There was never a project she could not conquer, and her work was impeccable. She cherished the magic of Christmas, cared for many cats over the years, enjoyed books, music, and British television shows, and appreciated a good hot fudge sundae. June was deeply religious and found immense solace in her faith and the promise of being reunited with her mother, grandmother, and those who predeceased her. A caregiver by nature, June will be remembered for her generosity, kindness, and ability to find joy in the little things. June was the rock of her family and will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her. June is survived by her husband of 53 years, Richard Heckart of Berlin, CT; daughter, Christina Heckart, and her husband, Ron Sheffer, of Middletown, CT; and siblings Beverly Breeger (Donald), Edward Stetson (Dawn), and Joan Skiffington (Curtis). Her family is grateful for the exceptional care she received from Susan, Melanie, Debbie, and the hospice team at Hartford Healthcare, Priscilla Moreira, Dr. Gerard Fumo, Dr. Oscar Serrano, and Dr. Charles Helm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Thursday, May 1st at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels, St. Joseph Campus, 22 Goodwill Avenue, Meriden, CT 06451. There are no calling hours and everyone is asked to meet directly at church. Burial will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden, CT 06450. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations to plant a tree with an engraved plaque in June's honor in the Wadsworth/Kerste DeBoer Arboretum, steps away from her daughter's house in Middletown. I got to know Ms. Heckart when she adopted 2 kittens, one from MHS and one from myself. She was a wonderful person to open her home and heart to those little souls and loved them dearly. My condolences to her family. I will miss her stories about the kitties when she would come to see me. With a heavy heart, Katherine.

I went to Platt High with June and remember her being one of the nicest, sweetest girls in my class. She always had a smile on her face and a positive attitude. RIP June.
