Larry Golemon Obituary

Larry Wilson Golemon, affectionately known as "Larry Wayne," "Daddy," and "Popie," lived a wonderful life, although it ended too soon. He passed away peacefully on the morning of May 27, 2025, surrounded by his family and listening to one of his favorite songs, "Over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwo ole. Larry, the son of Katherine Mae and Robert Lee Golemon, was born December 10, 1953, in Marshall, Texas. As a young man, he moved to Bossier City where he started his adult life as a loving husband and adoring father. Although no longer a resident of Marshall, he was very proud of his roots and traveled back frequently. Larry graduated from Marshall High in 1972. During his years there, he developed wonderful memories and a group of lifelong friends whom he loved like family. His classmates knew him to be an amazing drummer. Post high school, Larry attended the University of Texas in Austin where he earned a BA in Business Administration, Accounting, and Finance, met the love of his life, Susan Marie McElroy, and made more lifelong friends. Larry had an immense admiration of his alma mater and would have loved it if his children attended as well. Larry was hard-working and extremely dedicated to his family. One could say that he lived for his family; he made it his life's purpose to create wonderful life experiences for them. Larry had a passion for banking and made it his career. He started at the Louisiana Bank & Trust Company, then moved to the FDIC in Connecticut. He retired from Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi in New York City. With each work experience, he was able to walk away with lifelong friendships which were very important to him. He took pride in maintaining contact with those friends. A gregarious, kind, generous, and supportive man, Larry will always be remembered by everyone who was lucky enough to have known him. Larry, "Popie," loved spending time with his grandsons and watching them play in their baseball games. He doted on them. Clearly, they were his pride and joy, and the love he had for them and their achievements was immense. On numerous occasions his love for them was so great that he would be found gazing at them teary-eyed. They wanted for nothing as Popie made sure that their needs were met before his own. In addition to spending time with his family and pups, he always loved traveling. He was lucky enough to travel to many different countries throughout his life, but his heart will always be tied to Hawaii. Some of his fondest memories were spent there with his family and friends. His family is forever grateful for being able to experience the beauty of the islands with him, and they look forward to celebrating his life there when they return, as he had planned, to celebrate his oldest grandson's high school graduation. In addition to travel, Larry found pleasure in gardening, reading, napping with his pups, and ordering anything and everything from Amazon! Without a doubt Amazon will suffer a loss in revenue without Larry! In discussing Larry's interests and achievements, it would be remiss not to mention that Larry was also known affectionately by his family and friends as "Dr. Larry" because of the medical, legal, and financial Internet degrees that he collected. Larry is preceded in death by his loving parents, Katherine and Robert Golemon. He was the cherished nephew of the deceased Mack and Laverne Ready of Marshall, Texas. He leaves behind his cherished and devoted wife of 47 years, Sue Golemon; his son, Chase Golemon; his daughter, Jennifer Golemon Childree; her husband, Gil; and their two sons, Brayden and Bryce. In addition, he will be missed by his nephew, Mitch Ready, his half-brother, Robert Golemon, his wife Rhonda, and their daughters Robynn Golemon Hodnett and Lacey Golemon. Larry also leaves behind other family members and many dear friends who will sadly miss him and his frequent text messages of "How's the weather down there?" or the memes making light of political drama. During Larry's lifetime, he did everything for his family. His greatest joy was making sure that they were happy. His family will miss how he would tease them with comments such as, "You'll miss me when I'm gone" and "Just paying ahead for my old-age care." Although his loss is a tremendous one, his family find comfort in knowing that his love lives on through the lessons he taught them, the love he shared, and the memories they will cherish forever. To respect his wishes, the family will honor him privately. They invite those who loved and cared for Larry as they did to privately celebrate memories of him in their own ways or to consider making a donation to the American Heart Association. His family is comforted in knowing that Larry's spirit and love will remain with everyone his life touched.
