Leland was raised in West Center Harbor, NH, earning his high school diploma through the military after enlisting at 17 years old. Leland proudly served his country for six years as a US Marine. After his time in the military, he worked driving trucks and working at a garage before getting a job at Connecticut printers in Bloomfield CT. Many years he and his guy group would drive to Florida for the Daytona 500, ritually driving, none of them would ever want to fly, they enjoyed the drive together. Due to some of his own health complications, Leland was in need of blood transfusions and was pictured on the Red Cross posters to please donate blood as he was a recipient of over a thousand units of blood in his lifetime.
