Leonard Mazzoni Obituary

Leonard A. "Len" Mazzoni, 79, of South Windsor, beloved husband of 44 years to Marney (Glynn) Mazzoni, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 9, 2025. He was born on May 26, 1945, in New Britain, one of three children to the late Casper and Olga (Sarra) Mazzoni. Len grew up in New Britain, attended local schools, and was a graduate of New Britain High School, Class of 1963. Following high school, he began his undergraduate studies at Central Connecticut State University, before joining the United States Army where he proudly served his country from 1968-1970 during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he completed his studies earning his bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts. Len was employed by both Aetna and Travelers for 39 years before his retirement in 2010. When not working, Len found joy in spending time outdoors tending to his vegetable garden and his yard, as well as his daily 5-mile walks around the neighborhood. He also looked forward to his many trips to Cape Cod with his family spending time in Orleans, or rooting on his favorite teams, the Boston Red Sox and New York Giants. Although our time with Len has come to an end, his memory will be cherished in the hearts of all who knew him for years to come. In addition to his wife, Len is survived by his three children, Kevin Mazzoni and his wife Elizabeth of Norfolk, MA, Sarah Monaghan and her husband Bill of Glastonbury, and Alison Carr and her husband Paul of Woburn, MA; his five grandchildren, James, Tyler, Ayla, Dylan, and Nora; as well as his two brothers, Robert Mazzoni and his partner Lana Pentore of Farmington, and Louis Mazzoni and his wife Sue of New Britain. Len's family would like to offer a special word of thanks to the staff at The Residence of South Windsor Farms, the Visiting Nurse & Health Services in Vernon, as well as the Nutmeg Home Assistance Program for all of the care they provided Len over the last month. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 10-11 a.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor, with a prayer service to begin at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, CT Chapter, 200 Executive Blvd. Ste 4B, Southington, CT 06489, or to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O.
