Lisa Dykes Obituary
Lisa Michelle Dykes, 54, of Perry, Florida passed from this life after a lengthy illness on April 8, 2025 at Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee surrounded by her loving family and caring staff. Lisa was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, wife, daughter and friend, supporting all who had the privilege of knowing her. She loved cooking, being a mother and caring for her grandchildren. She loved to make birthday cakes, Easter baskets, shirts with her grandkids' names on them, and was always buying gifts for her grandchildren. Her love of her family was and is an enduring legacy.
Living in Florida allowed her to enjoy the outdoors, homesteading, fishing, and camping. It was these skills that allowed her and her husband to help those devastated by recent hurricanes. She took pride in helping others in her community, whether it be individuals in need or members of her church, and was grateful to those neighbors who helped her and her family in return. She truly cared about people from the heart.
Lisa and her husband Thomas were the proud owners of Double D's Remodeling LLC.
Lisa was a proud graduate of Taylor County High School, State University of New York at Plattsburgh, having graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing. She continued her education at Grand Canyon University, receiving a Masters of Science in Nursing (MSNEd, RN). It was here and in Kaiser University that she became and practiced as a Nurse Educator, a career that became her vocation. She was truly dedicated to her profession, having practiced as a registered nurse at such places as Cross Landings Nursing Home, Brynwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, Westminster Tallahassee, and was a traveling nurse. This work was of great importance to her and gave her much reward. This was her true calling.
Lisa is survived by her husband, Thomas Dykes; her children Angela Stone (Darrin Smith), Andrew Stone (Alex Stone), Erica Peprah, and Dora Peprah; her grandchildren Rosealani, Koa, Kane, Tejauhn, Taiden, Taylani, and Brantley; her father George Cullen; her sister Kimberly Thomas (Cornelius Thomas); and her brother Frank Cullen; a niece Diamond; nephews Joshua and Chase; and many relatives and friends. Her dear friend Barbara Schomisch was a steadfast companion to the end. She also leaves her brother Christopher Woods (Mary Lou Woods), niece Elizabeth and nephew Lawrence of Connecticut. She was predeceased by her mother, Diane Cullen.
A service in celebration of Lisa's life will be held on Sunday, April 20th 2:30 P.M. at Pentecostals of Perry 3379 N US 221 Perry, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Bend Hospice Foundation 1723 Mahan Center Blvd. Tallahassee, FL 32308.
