Loretta Mansfield Obituary
Loretta "Lorrie" (Dighello) Mansfield, 90, of Wallingford, passed away unexpectedly on August 18th, 2025, with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Frederick Mansfield.
Born on January 24th, 1935, in Wallingford to the late Yolanda (Beraldi) and Louis Dighello, Loretta was a proud lifelong resident of the community. Everybody seemed to know Loretta!
Loretta graduated from Lyman Hall High School in 1953 and later worked as a secretary at Unimax Switch Corp where she met Fred. Together, they built their life and raised their family on Stella Drive in Wallingford, creating lasting memories with neighbors and friends. Stella Drive will never be the same without her.
For 25 years, Loretta was a devoted nanny to countless children across Connecticut, many of whom she continued to keep in touch with until her death.
A lifelong parishioner of Holy Trinity Church, she was a woman of strong faith in which she passed onto her children and grandchildren. She is at peace now and certainly in Heaven.
A member of the Wallingford Senior Center, Loretta loved gathering with local friends, and certainly never turned down a good meal! Loretta was truly one of a kind and never tried to be anyone other than herself. Throughout her life, she never met a stranger, and never seemed to cease keeping those around her laughing.
Loretta is survived by her two sons, Michael Mansfield and his wife, Veronica, and Mark Mansfield and his wife, Angelina, both of Wallingford; her seven grandchildren, Alyssa and her husband, Justin, of Wallingford, Joseph and his wife, Gabrielle, of Rocky Hill, and Brennan, Julia, Christian, Amelia, and Aaron Mansfield, all of Wallingford; and of course her cherished great- granddaughter, Josephine (Jojo). She is also survived by her sister, Delores Delmolino, her brother, Louis Dighello Jr. and his wife, Carol, both of Wallingford, as well as many nieces, nephews, and many friends.
The Mansfield family would like to thank all of the caregivers Loretta had over these past six years, especially Currin and Nicole, who became like family to her.
Loretta's family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext. on Thursday, August 21st from 5:00 - 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday directly at 11:00am at Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 North Colony Street, Wallingford. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
